How to dodge retaliatory feedback.
 

I sold something to a few people on eBay. 4 of them didnt pay. 3 didnt respond. 1 sent a message back stating that if I leave them feedback, they'd leave me negative feedback stating my items are ⊗⊗⊗⊗. they're not ⊗⊗⊗⊗, but feedback saying that would crush this account. What should I do? If I file a non paying bidder, can they still leave feedback?

They can leave feedback at any time.
As a rule-Never leave feedback till they do.
You can still file an unpaid item strike - this is what I do. Usually there is another member or two who have done this to the same person and they get NARU'd

be carefull with the unpaid strike too. some buyers get very angry by these and i have had several negatives left for me just because i filed a strike against them.

Is it possible to wait 89 days then file a negative since they have only 90 days to leave FB?

Another thing I have done with a neg is give a neg back then open a mutual withdraw...so far everyone has accepted it...once they feel that sting hit them back they are more vulnerable...

Remember not to open a mutual withdraw w/o leaving fb..cause, from what I understand, once you open it you won't be able to leave fb at all...

twdell-true, but if you can get them to do what I mentioned above, you also get your fees back. But your right there is a risk there.

If you notice a non paying bidder ever gets NARU's immediately open that dispute and choose "buyer is not a registered user" and you'll get your fees credited immediately.

Too bad you can't leave buyers a neg anymore. :(

when does this go into effect? I think I missed that somewhere?

well here's one thing I didn't know...

When a buyer doesn't respond to the Unpaid Item (UPI) process the negative or neutral Feedback they have left for that transaction will be removed.

so then if these buyers are an extreme pain in the nether regions, its time to start making ⊗⊗⊗⊗ accounts in their names and getting them suspended

I believe you can leave feedback any time as long as the auction itself is still in their system. They usually delete them after 90 days, but not always. In particular, one auction of mine that got linked from some random forum is still up even after nearly a year. I suspect it kept getting traffic from the forum and they never deleted it for that reason.

So maybe you looked at it when you left your feedback and they decided to not delete it at the 90 day mark. It's also possible they don't remove it precisely on the 90th day, but run a weekly cleanup job that removes any auction over 3 months old that nobody has looked at recently.

So yeah, negative feedback on the 90th day can actually bite back.

How long ago was this? Before the star ratings started I could neg people 4-8 months later varying on when ebay cleared some setting out.

What month/year did this happen? I am planning on doing this and I would like to know.

Well if you see it in there, then feedback can be left. Once it's gone ebay can't find it. If someone knows how to leave the FB on it after it's gone, I would like to know.

So I can do a non paid item dispute, if they dont respond, I can neg them and they cant leave one in return?

You can not leave negative feedback anymore for the buyers. You can only leave POSITIVE or none at all. I thought once you filed the non paying item that they were restricted from leaving any feedback. Am I wrong about that? That has been my experience. As a general rule, I never leave feedback until the buyer does.

Btw, just to rant, I dealt with this guy from LA . He was screaming with caps saying that
the item I sold him is used (it was sealed) . then he saiod that he wants to keep it and I have to refund him. it was a small dollar item, so after some fighting, I went ahead and refunded him his $12 . and I still got a neg from this dip****. Checked his FB... he is 900+ feedbacker and have left 6 negatives the past 2 weeks.

Any suggestions for situations like this? So next time just don't refund unless they clearly say they wouldn't neg?

I'm a big fan of leaving follow-up replies to negative or neutral feedback.

They still have the ability to follow-up your follow-up, but in my experience they rarely do.

There's nothing you can do to stop stop someone from leaving you negative feedback.

yea, he blatantly lie on his response to my response.... changed the story.
he even said: USED UNIT! Shrunk wrapped!!!

I never give a refund until I receive the item back. There are scammers out there who like to complain about the item just to get you to refund the money. As a rule, tell them to send it back and then give a refund. As for the negative, I would just respond you refunded and he still left negative. Or ask him to remove the negative since you refunded his money. Some people are just impossible to please no matter what you do. :mad:

Has the ebay system changed since these comments that were made ages ago?

If you file an unpaid item and they dont respond and you close the case receiving a final value fee credit.

Can they leave feedback then?
