MC010 doesn't mean the account is dead!

Here is the message I received today after trying to list a netbook on a 2 day old account,
Thank you for selling on eBay. To maintain a safe and secure online marketplace, eBay may require additional verification for newer sellers from time to time. Your listings have been placed on hold until we can talk with you.

To prevent your account from being closed, please contact eBay within the next 48 hours at the link below. You may be asked to sign in:
http://contact.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI...eLVis&Format=1

You can always sign in safely on the eBay home page first before using the Contact Us link above.

We appreciate your cooperation in verifying your account as quickly as possible and welcome you as a valued member of our trading community.

Sincerely,

eBay Trust & Safety team

So I called and gave it a try...the guy generated 2 questions for me to answer to verify the account was mine (I just answered none of the above to both) and to my surprise he said I passed. He said this is a normal procedure for brand new sellers who are trying to sell so quickly. So if you get this notice, dont just give the account up, call and see what happens, whats the worst that can happen? So the moral of the story is, if you dont want to risk receiving this notice, use your account strictly for buying for some months, stay under the radar, then slowly begin to sell! period

Did you receive this message BEFORE or AFTER listing the netbook? Lately, I've seen many new and (0) feedback accounts listing $800+ items and seem to still be up and running. I would like to know if when this happens, the listing gets taken down or not?

angiepooh01 05-16-2011 06:22 PM

I received the message literally 10 minutes after listing. First I got the MC067,

The following listings have been removed because your account is currently restricted. All associated fees have been credited to your account.

Asus Eee PC 4G Netbook PINK

We'll send you a separate notice about the action taken on your account.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

eBay Customer Support

Followed by the MC010. I'm sure those with 0 feedback probably had to verify their account too. Once you verify your account im guessing you should be able to list as much as your selling limit allows. Im about to list atleast 700-800 worth of stuff. I let you know how it goes and if this verification bypassed anymore limitations like that.

without wanting to sound totally "thick" - haven't you just given ebay all the info they need to identify who you are by leaving the cancelled item number on your post? Surely the way that ebay and paypal work - if they can now assoicate you with this site they will do whatever they can to stop you from trading.

I ask again ......... am I being too paranoid :spy:

Oops - time to edit the posting OP:eek:

OfficialGenius 05-16-2011 07:38 PM

Not necessarily, the listing has been already taken down anyway so there's no record of the listing even existing.

Valid point...but the item no longer exsists. But just to be safe I think that post needs to be edited...Thanks :thumb:
