| | | Sandy D | 05-17-2011 10:41 PM | Anyone ever run into this issue before? I have not experienced this problem with a stealth account.
A local person has bid on many items of mine and is the current high bidder and has also won a few already has sent a message telling me since they bought so much that they want to come to my home and pick up the items.
It is a stealth address and a stealth name.
I was thinking of cancelling the bids and telling them I do not meet with people due to safety issues but they wont buy it now items tonight already and have the stealth address, name etc.
Anyone run into this? How did you handle it?
I do not want to meet with anyone in person and surely do not want them coming around the stealth address with a twist to the address it would be an easy catch.
Any ideas? |
| mcarlonejr | 05-17-2011 10:51 PM | Yes, you can definitely say you don't have local pickup but you would be happy to ship to them. I do this also :) Do you have your real street with a different house number and zip code?? |
| TurtleCove | 05-17-2011 11:08 PM | Tell them your wife doesn't feel comfortable with this, so you'll meet them at the local grocery store parking lot. |

Any ideas? | Just offer to ship the items for free.
All one package, the cost would be minimal being a local shipment.
Keeps Everyone Happy! :D |
| fired | 05-17-2011 11:23 PM | If you must meet
just meet at starbucks or another common place |

Any ideas? | Good Idea is to say you are out of state doing business like one state or to be safe 2 states, and you usually take the merchandise packed up so all you have to do is drop off at the post office.... If you wanna make them happy maybe you can upgrade to priority mail shipping for free? Just a thought.... Quote:

| Sandy D | 05-18-2011 02:43 AM | Thanks everyone.
Actually we are within 15-20 miles of each other and the address is stealth with a twist to the street number.
If they were to drive by the stealth address they would not find the home and probably would be reporting it.
Since I do a lot of antiques and collectibles I am thinking it is someone who is trying to find out who I am.
I can ship the items for free but I think I am more worried about the person just driving by the address and not being able to actually find it.
The stealth address is for example 123 stealth ave when the real address is 123 stealthvine ave. |
| newtools | 05-18-2011 03:08 AM | your best bet is too say it is your company policy for safety. the End! pay and ship or receive non paying bidder mark. |
Free shipping works well for these kind of folx. You can be clear that home pickup is a matter of privacy and you would prefer not to. |
he/they could be planning on robbing you!!!
if you choose to do local pick up,make sure you meet in a bust crowded area, never your home, lets say outside a supermarket at teatime, take someone with you, just be as safe as possible
i heard a horror story about someone getting robbed on a local pick-up
dont mean to worry you but there are them sort of people out there |
| cruiserdaddy | 05-18-2011 12:11 PM | Am I wrong for thinking the buyer doesnt have the sellers address, only zip code? |
They cannot see details unless they pull up info - and only phone number to reach you with that. |
| Sandy D | 05-18-2011 01:06 PM | Complete stealth address and the house is not there.
If the buyer pulls the information and drives by the house the account will be toast as they most likely will report it to eb.
People have horror stories out there with meeting people even at McDonalds.
Craiglist is a nightmare for people doing this. I think I may have fixed the problem by changing the address on the account to a PO Box.
Now if they pull the info they will get the PO Box instead of the street address.
I cannot offer free shipping because most of the items are heavy and even cost 8-14 dollars to ship across town. As of right now they are high bidder on tons of stuff.
Thanks everyone. This could be interesting.
Will keep you all posted as I have not run into this before. |

Good stuff - yes, I would not want to meet buyers in general. |
| aking | 05-18-2011 02:42 PM | if they are regular buyers and are happy with your items, just meet them at like a gas station or grocery store and give them their items. i wouldnt have them come to your house. they dont have to even know your name or address. |
| TurtleCove | 05-19-2011 02:33 AM | I think the 3rd post of this thread, basically said just that. |
| angelas111 | 05-23-2011 04:26 PM | well, if you do decide to meet them make them pay cash. no paypal unless you are shipping. |
yes dont take pp if you meet in person, always cash, well said angelas111:) |
| besttimedeals | 05-24-2011 10:10 AM | You are the one in charge, not them. Tell them you do not offer a pickup option and if they would still like to purchase you will be happy to ship. |
yes but you gotta be nice about it,they can neg you if you insult or pees them off in any way...
that is the dilemma! |
| easytiger12381 | 05-24-2011 04:51 PM | I am pretty new to the forum and havent got the experience that a lot of these guys have but you could offer to take the goods to their home. Obviously take someone with you for security. I am sure the petrol cost would be a lot less than the shipping cost. If the buyer is genuine they would probably think this was a nice touch- no need for your personal details to be given. |
that is a good suggestion:)
may not be ideal for some but still its an option,
if it was me i`d want to meet up in a busy place, quick exchange and be gone,
no chit chat,no coffee....OUTA!!! |
| Sandy D | 05-26-2011 01:18 AM | I decided to tell them for safety reasons I cannot met anyone as being a woman and not having anyone who can meet at 7 pm at night.
My guess was correct, he got nasty, cursing and sending threats that he would contact ebay and let them know I am not willing to go out of my way to help someone who wants to purchase multiple items etc.
If this idiot gets this nasty and I wont even post some of the words he used then I can imagine what would be said in person.
Not worth the few hundred bucks to deal with a cursing threatening person.
My call was correct, something told me in his messages he would be demanding and forceful so I made the call to say no.
I blocked him before I sent the message but he was able to get one item won so I sent him an invoice and he paid right away and of course the message came right in that he is a big buyer on ebay and blah blah blah and that he expects the item will be packed correctly and shipped out the next day.
Can see a neg coming from this idiot but that is ok, he is also a seller on ebay. ;> |
| unkown5454 | 05-26-2011 02:49 AM | A neg is better than being murdered by a psycho. Stay safe Sandy, you did the right thing. |
loool,
if he negs you, triple neg him,
al help you neg dis fool:) |
| ShadyOne | 05-26-2011 06:55 PM | ^ Though it's sometimes hard no to, it is best not to get involved with things like this.
No matter how you may approach it. |
| Sandy D | 05-29-2011 01:40 AM | Amazing.
As most of us knew this idiot just neg'd me.
Something like.
Hard to work with, won't go out of the way for buyer, wont buy from again.
I am not the type to neg someone back and never have been but this idiot is going to get a few of his own.
He is now sending me 3-4 emails at a time in bold, upper case telling me how much I have just hurt my business as he is a big buyer and will let other in his circle of buyers know not to buy from me.
I checked and the nutcase does not buy much at all.
Buyers are getting worse and worse.
For some reason I am getting hit with buyers now requesting parcel post shipping after they buy something when my listing clearly state I only ship priority mail and only within the US.
I am really glad I did not meet with this guy. One weirdo who is very aggressive, demanding and forceful. |
| unkown5454 | 05-29-2011 03:28 AM | Why would someone want slow ass parcel post??? Thinking you will give them a discount I guess? |
| koko007 | 05-29-2011 03:29 AM | Hi, this happened to me several time but I have an original account not stealth one but I simply message by buyer we don't do pickup and it's entirely my choice..
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
| Black | 05-29-2011 04:47 AM | I would gladly buy from him and leave neg's with my 2 accounts with 100+ feedback. What a weirdo.
Just leave a reply on the feedback saying something like: Princess buyer, contact me for the real story!
What a prick! |
yeah, you need to avenge this one!
i hate bullys!!! |
| Sandy D | 05-29-2011 03:18 PM | Now I am getting message after message from him because I commented under his nasty little neg.
I usually do not run into many buyers like this but it seems I am more and more all the time.
I guess I am more not liking the demanding and forcefulness from this nut then anything else.
I should have put in the comments.
I do not meet with pervs on the neighborhood list. |
