Can ebay/paypal track personal messages?

Hi(adding to my growing list of questions today, sorry)

Can ebay/paypal track personal messages you send to ebay/paypal users via ebay?

My ebay address is not my real address, so when you have the option to attach a message to a seller, and I say for example "can you send the item to this address" (my real/limited address) can ebay track this and then link my account?

Why would you meed to do that? When you buy Ebay send you the email address of the seller. Send as little as possible through their system.:pop2:

Ok thanks a lot, didn't realise that :)

I dont think even e bay can track these messages they dont usually check messages in case of normal transactions

They do. eBay can easily "invade" your inbox/outbox

One Million, One Hundred and Forty Percent.... Yes!

I had a problem with a buyer a few months ago and needed to talk to a eBay rep, and she had no problem pulling up and reading to me the back and forth emails.

GrannyT 05-21-2011 05:01 PM

Erm - you can only have 100%

Haha.."ANNNDD Forty Percent".

Yep. eBay snoop through messages, so never give out your real (suspended) info on there at all. Should be obvious but people do it all the time.

I actually kind of like this...

I mean, you know that eBay can always refer back to it. Do they actively monitor it? Doubtful.

But it helped me in one instance. A buyer was unhappy with her item. It weighed about 7 ounces. I agreed to reimburse her for first class return shipping. Instead, she called UPS to have a pcikup scheduled and gave me a bill for $9. She filed a complaint with eBay when I refused to give her more than the $3.20 it should have cost to mail First Class with delivery confirmation.

The eBay rep looked at our back and forth and could clearly see that I never said I would reimburse her for ANY type of shipping. I would never agree to something that open-ended. I won that one.

if you delete all incoming and sent emails in your ebay messages.. will that cover my butt if I am concerned about having completed a few transactions outside of ebay but communicated via ebay? I am not suspended or anything yet.. just as a precaution.?

xxxhustlerxxx 12-19-2011 04:19 AM

this thread is over 6 months old. you cannot delete your messages as they just go into the 'deleted messages folder' for 12 months.

GreenBean 12-19-2011 04:34 AM

Thought they changed it to 6 months? :juggle:
