I always raise mine to business accounts. Especially with pp. If anything you would be less looked at since regular accounts are not for tons of sales.

Yep, Go for it. I think GrannyT does that as well. I read on her post that she does all business accounts. I do to. The only way in my opinion.

1st off you need one if you sell more than just on occasion. another thing is that you would obviously get looked at differently if you were selling bulk and using a personal account. That isnt what the personal accounts are for.

If you are going to start a business account, be prepared for all that comes with it. You will need an EIN number and have to report to IRS. If you are a business one year, and not the next, IRS WILL want to know what happened to your business. I agree that it is less looked at, has higher limits, and you can use a business name vs. a real one. IRS and your bank will know you, but Ebay & PP will only know what you give them. The bank can know you as your business name. Good luck!

Is this your first stealth account? If it is, you have a lot of wiggle room. You can vary your name, address etc. You should definitely upgrade. Have ID documents ready in case they do ask. If they ask don't delay in sending them. Be prepared before you do anything. Take your time.

Why should I "definitely" upgrade?

Because someone just selling things to clean out a house dont make 2k per month. Those numbers are business numbers. I hope you are reporting it as well. If not they will find out eventually. I have seen this go very bad for 3 sellers I have known in the past.

I change all my pps to business.

Selling 2k is not a normal run of the mill part time ebayer and both eb and pp know that.

If you list consistently and do this kind of business then it needs to be put into business mode.

Besides if you do this and increase your sales the you will have a lot more options down the road such as business related write offs etc.

Correct.. Some of you guys have no idea what can be deducted. A good 20-30k in sales can easily be zero'd out with deductions. Then you would have little or no due taxes on it. I come close to zeroing out about every year now. Not hard to do.

I don't get it. I've sold on ebay for over a decade. Back when I was 100% legit, I had a couple of years where I was doing $5K/month. Not once...NOT ONCE, have I ever claimed any of that income, and I've never been contacted in any way by the uncle sam.

Now, I believe Kingray when he says he knows of others that have run into issues...but all I'm saying, is I'm no newbie at eb ay, and I've never had an issue when I was legit. Now that I'm stea lth, this income seems to be even more hidden.

What about the 200/$20,000? They didn't have that in the past. How are you going to get around that? Do you suggest multiple accounts to bypass the EIN/SSN requirement?

There is 2 ways to get "around" it. One is to split up your sales on multiple stealth accounts.

The other is to apply for the EIN with the IRS. You need to start paying taxes anyway. There is much more to this so if you plan on just using it to pacify paypal then you might be in for more of a mess that you know.

Either way you need to file taxes on all your sales.

To the poster that made 5k per month and didnt pay a dime. Good luck in the future and hope you have some records becuase if they ever do they can go back 7yrs.

Plus the IRS has many more options when it comes to finding hidden income. using someone elses name and info is just ID fraud. many of you feel that since you arent using someone elses SSN you are fine. WRONG..

One of you said that they probably cant find you. I know of someone personally that had all stealth and the IRS found it all. He now is broke and has 100k in back taxes and penalties to deal with. They went back 5 yrs and ebay gave them all records because all the IRS has to do is get a court order.
