eBay preloaded on new computer
 

I just crashed my computer yesterday - it was 18 months old amd a spare was sitting on deck.

When I cranked the computer up for the first time, there was an eBay shortcut on the desktop.

I deleted the program - but does anyone know what this was and is there any residual programs that I should be worried about tracking me on Ebay?

It was called "eBay Worldwide"

Anyone else have experiences in this regard?

Create a new user ID and never go back to the old one. :pop2:

Make a new windows user account too.

I deleted the program before I ever surfed the net - will only access eBay through proxy servers that does not show as so - I use static IP's - located throughout the US.

I just have never seen an eBay program - - let alone pre loaded on a brand new computer.

Yeah. Compaq Presarios have this. Such an unpleasant sight when stealth :eek::doh:

Either eB pays them for the ad or they get affiliate payments. Right click, properties, find target. If it's just an url, delete it and you're good to go.

Spend a couple of hundreds more and get yourself a business class machine, then you won't get all the bloatwarez.

Or just don't be lazy and uninstall.

Uninstall frees up much needed room...

I nave this on my Sony Vaio, it is preloaded somehow. I don't know is it possible to be removed.

It can be removed. Right click computer and see if it is listed. Uninstall it if it is showing on the list of items. Restart your puter and your good to go.

Also, if you try using ccleaner, in the uninstaller section, it often lists hidden programs normal windows uninstaller does not list

CCleaner all day.

And this EB nonsense is with most Windows 7 packages. So, get used to it. Cannot escape EB virus.

Or just build the computer by yourself, this way you choose exactly which hardware you take, which software you pay for etc. Also saves some money.

Think again. Prices are dropping so low on desktops and laptops that I have so many I wouldn't even care if I lose a couple or they just stopped working. Just go buy another one in the same day for dirt cheap.

Maybe high end gaming and video editing computers are still a different story, but that's it.

Why bother spending more when you can build your own computer for less price, and better hardware?

I find talking over ppl's head a less productive way to get the point across. Besides, I don't expect someone freaking out over an url shortcut or ppl that can't recognize that it's just a url shortcut to pick the right parts or the right size philips head screwdriver.

I agree with them, however some people dont know about computers and would never dare take a philips head to it so in that respect shops is the only way....

or I can always make you one for a good price with a nice healthy power supply ha ha :) (I learnt this % cut from someone.. I wonder who)
