No duplicate listings rule. Is this a legitimate way around?

Does anyone know if Ebay cares if you have 2 of the exact same item listed if one is fixed price and one is auction? I figured this might be ok since they are a different listing format.

Also, what about having multiple of the same items listed with different keywords, photos, and text. Is this being enforced as well?

There is a MC999 Duplicate listings violation that can kick in.

That second idea of yours would be doable if everything is nice and clean.

Experimentation, time, and trial+error will lead to methods that work.

All the best.

There is a duplicate listing rule that was implied into ebays rules last Christmas. And yes they take action. It is the worst way to get a violation on ebay, and can easily be avoided. Not worth it, in my opinion.

If I'm not mistaken, you can only have 1 Fixed price auction.
The Normal auction you can list duplicates, as long as your sale through rate is above 30%

wrong. duplicate listings are not allowed. think of it as j-walking. rarely do you get a ticket, but it happens more than you think

KingRay 08-22-2011 08:24 PM

I list almost everything I have as buy it now and as auction if they want to try and get it cheaper.

Not sure about the other way but the way I do it there is no problems. Not sure why it would be either.

HurricaneHuntr 08-22-2011 08:55 PM

yeah i list everything.... for example

19.99 buy it now 32.78 And 1 goes off a day, because my niche is so small i am only competing with myself if i have more than 1 go off the same night.

I believe you're allowed to have as many auctions as you want, it's just the BIN listings which you cannot have duplicates of.

GrannyT 08-23-2011 06:44 AM

In the UK you can have 16 auctions for each BIN. I use auctions to drive traffic to my BINs. I wont put the exact way I do it on an open forum but I use them to get me to the front of the listings - first page - the fact that it's a PS & TRS account helps

Yes, ebay does care. If they find out which probably 99% they will then one of the listings gets removed. How do I know? It has happened to me!

Its too hard to distinguish with certain items.

For instance, I sell a ratchet wrench or similar tool. They are all used but I have 30 of them. They all have the same model # on them but are listed separately. They will allow this. I do this all the time. The reason they cannot be listed in qty on a single buy it now listing is becuase condition may be different on each. SOmetimes the amount is a little different according to condition.

Now if you are selling ipod cases then you are busted and cannot do so.

as far as selling the exact same items via auction and BIN, I do it on everything. I have over 400 BIN's going at any given time on one account and 150-200 auctions running along side of them.

You can defeat the duplicate listings by modifying minor pieces of text in the description of the listing. It could be as simple as rewording a sentence of switching words around.

Do NOT rely on that - quickest way to lose an account (apart from selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗ Disney)

i have done this for years make 1 listing 9.99 the next 9.98 .next 10.00 or however as long as you change the ammount by a penny its not the same and no problems ebay does seem to watch these a little closer sometimes i miss one and relst another for the same price then ebay hits both really quick

I've done it a bunch of times. Got caught a couple times recently (maybe they stepped up their algorithm) but they said I'm fine because my sell thru is like 87%.

ESDave 09-24-2011 12:59 AM

Okay, just to make it final.

1) Auction many of the SAME duplicate item okay? YES

2) Buy it Now of the SAME duplicate item okay? NO!

3) Having a Duplicate of the SAME item in this format: (1) Buy it Now and (1) on Auction okay? Yes

Just wanting to make sure as people post "I believe" "It should" so definite answers will be nice (:

EDIT: Did the research, found the answers.

:amen: Exactly! I use almost duplicate BIN listings with just a minor price or listing headline alteration...

morningwood 09-28-2011 11:27 PM

You can only have duplicate auctions if the sell 30% of the time. Which means, if you have four in auction, and only one sells (which is 25%) you will receive a mc999. If two sells (50%) your ok!! And if all sells, go shopping!!
