What does ebay consider high risk items?
 

Obviously electronics and any brand name item - is there anything else I should stay away from on a new account? Would you recommend selling gift cards on a new account?

This can be a very tricky topic as not all expensive brand name items are high risk. If you dont sell foo-foos you dont need to worry about anything. Its pretty obvious who is selling phakes, even if you are a top rated, power seller with 5,000 feedback.

pretty much if its something you are selling that you didnt get from the act ual supplier/mfr then you dont have any reason to be selling it.

Simple really. If you sell nike and you didnt get them from nike then you should not be selling them.

same with anything else. Thats how it works these days.

You have to find a niche instead of just wanting something to sell. That route is for the pros that can handle the issues that come with it. Its not something you are going to learn and get overnight by any means.

yeah it sucks u cant sell gift cards w/o rules and restrictions cause i have a bunch of cards with under $1 amount on them and i listed 10 in a listing and it was going good i was makeing more then what was on the cards its self and boom they removed the listings for violating there gift card policy. :mad2:

Yeah you can only list 1 at a time per account, when I used to sell itunes cards, I'd just spread them out over multiple accounts.

Just getting back on topic a bit:

My new accounts have a 1-per-30 days limit for stuff thats considered high risk. (in this case consumer electronics)

I tried to sell a high-risk vero item on eBay on a fairly new account. All is good, someone buys it. Guy doesn't pay, ok so I open an unpaid item dispute, he still doesn't pay, I close it and I get my credit and he gets his strike.

HERE is the kicker; even if someone buys your high-risk item and doesn't pay and you do the unpaid item thing, you still can't relist it. Must wait 30 days. Just found that out today and I'm fairly angry because logic was thrown out the window again.

Just thought I'd share that. So be prepared to have to wait another 30 days each time some genius buys your item and doesn't pay.

@Hrad, sorry that happened to you.

But you made an error. ebay has no logic. If you try to think they have none, you can work them much better.

A seller doing nothing wrong gets caught in their demands unjustly. Their conceptual understanding is most narrow. All cases are treated equally with bad results. :mad:

If you're worried about non paying buyers, next time use BIN and check 'Immediate payment required'.

I know I have that option but it seems to scare many buyers away. I will definitely use it next time though. I thought I would be able to relist when eBay sees that the buyer didn`t pay but since I can`t, I will have no choice but to use that option because I sure as heck am not going to wait 30 days each time someone decides not to pay.

Those are most likely the non paying buyers, you don't need them anyway.

Yeah I know what you're saying but in my past experience for the stuff that I'm selling I often had people take 2-3 days to send payment. In the end I had a really low rate of non-paying buyers, but now with this limit on these accounts I just can't take that risk anymore.

Did you use the "relist" feature or simply just list it again? When I use relist I don't have that problem.

ebay is a joke with this limits thing... i think its not well made feature:
i have listed screen protectors, 10 in one auction. got no warnings at all. after that i've tried to list another 10, and got a warning that i've reached the category limit blah blah...
yesterday when i tried to REVISE my listing (the 10 protectors price, i wanted to lower them), the system didn't let me to revise! system says i've already listed the maximum in this category, and they wanted me to call c/s to verify my information?! this is bull****... i just wanted to revise my price
