| groundhog | 02-22-2007 06:24 PM | Credit Card requirements when opening an EBAY account I was able to create a new buyers account recently and it didn't ask me about credit card info, so I entered only address, name and phone.
But now I am trying to do the same and it askes me for a credit card number whatever I do.
What is the difference? Why sometimes it is required, sometimes not? |
aspkin | 02-22-2007 06:54 PM | It should only ask when you're creating a "seller's account". You don't need one to buy. |
AndreasF | 02-22-2007 09:44 PM | Yesterday I also tried to open the buyers-ac and was asked for cc- it seems they have changed the requirements, |
sss99 | 02-23-2007 05:08 AM | Same happened to me. When I tried registering, it asked for credit card info because I signed up with an anonymous email address (gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.) |
072090 | 02-23-2007 07:18 PM | cc required Just today I tried to register and it also asked for a CC, I did the live chat and asked why, they explained that if you register with a free email such as yahoo they need a CC on file. |

Is this something new?
What emails are considered to be "free"? |
x2ruff4u | 02-24-2007 06:44 AM | hm thats been going on a while for me. I use yahoo all the time so it always asks me for that. (get the cc handy:p ) |
AndreasF | 02-24-2007 08:46 AM | Gents
I opened two accounts in a row today, wiping out any data on my PC after the first registration.
For the first ac I was asked for a cc but not for the 2nd ac. For both ac I used yahoo-addies.
Seems more like a random check/requirement?? |
aspkin | 02-24-2007 11:19 AM | Wow, that's different! That probably will push away 10% of new customer's of theirs. It's no worry for us though, just gotta use the credit card a little earlier. Nothing big. |
CPUGEEK | 03-08-2007 12:10 AM | Credit Card not need for new acount! Just a heads up, if you use an accoun ttied to a domain like comcast, aol, earthlink, then you wont have to provide a credit card when setting up a new account. My account email is with comcast and ebay didnt ask for a credit card on both of my accounts |

My account email is with comcast and ebay didnt ask for a credit card on both of my accounts | I created 3 buyers accounts recently without a credit card (gmail address), but on the 4th it asked for a credit card. I changed mailing address and it let me create without a credit card. Weird...
I will be using them for shill bidding. I know it's not good, but I need to sell few items for the real price until I am able to list with "Buy It Now". |
becca073 | 04-01-2008 06:46 PM | Buyers account needs a credit card for registration? Since when? I just tried to create a new buyer's account and it is asking for a credit card for verification purposes. Is this new? I registered 2 accounts back on 3/2/08 and didn't need to enter any credit card information. |
becca073 | 04-01-2008 07:02 PM | I don't think so, I checked my posts before posting the question. Sorry if its a duplicate topic. I tried to find a thread on this subject. I'll try again on another day & see if the same thing happens. I thought maybe it was a gmail thing, but it asked for one too with the yahoo email. |
TotallyDisgusted | 04-01-2008 07:07 PM | Same exact thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Opened 2 new eb accounts: 1 required cc to register & the other nothing. Both were registered w/gmail. It does appear random. |
becca073 | 04-01-2008 07:15 PM | Wow this sucks. I didn't want to have to put out the $20 to get a Simon Gift card until I am ready to use the account. Now I guess you have no choice.
Does anyone know is this only happening with accounts created using dialup? |
TotallyDisgusted | 04-01-2008 08:13 PM | Not using dialup here...using broadband & still required cc during registration. |
siashay | 04-01-2008 08:48 PM | opened two account this week, first with myway email second with gmail. The gmail was fine until I tried to bid then it was asked for a cc. I could bid fine with the myway account. |
mantisinc | 04-02-2008 10:29 AM | Well I opened up an account in the UK with a private domain email address, and was STILL required to enter my CC info. |
doughboykilla | 04-02-2008 11:46 AM | Opening more then one biddder account on the same ip will require u to enter a CC in as well as useing gmail yahoo or hotmail Ect. |
ebayaintstupid | 04-04-2008 06:23 AM | If you get asked for a cc, just try again... with a new email, etc. You need the new IP, all cookies cleared, etc. to start over.
Some things seem to trigger it. Speed of entry. Certain locations. Things like that.
I have been seeing it much less of late. |
NowWhat | 04-04-2008 07:46 PM | I think it is still a question of how dangerous your profile looks. I tried two accounts yesterday. On the first they wanted CC in the registration process. Ij the second they wanted CC when I first bid.
Today I opened two accounts with better profile info, both were approved without a CC and on one I have bought a BIN with no problem.
The difference was I gave better info. In all cases it was with hotmail emails. |
jscan | 04-05-2008 02:17 AM | this is true, when registering an account about 3 weeks ago i hat to verify it with a credit card and this was before i started to create a seller acc | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 05:31 PM. | |
