Hi everyone,

I've been recently receiving a ton of physical letters and phone calls from IC System for around 1,500 dollars.

I'm not sure if they know my SSN but I do know that they have my physical address and number. When I called them (all I disclosed was my name since I figured they already had it and the reference number they gave me.) they told me the account that was delinquent was ,,,,,," which I never even created or used. They also said they sent emails to a yahoo mail account - my yahoo mail account hasn't been used in a year so it's been deactivated.

When I disputed all that, the woman suggested to me that my friends and family got a hold of my account and my information which i think is preposterous since I'm pretty sure none of my friends would put me in the red by 1500 dollars.

What do you guys think I should do?

You have 30 days after the first letter they sent to your last known address to prove to you that you owe it and they have the legal right to collect it.

Did you sent them a dispute letter within the 1st 30 days asking them to send you proof and the fact they have the legal agreement with ebay to collect this so called debt?

Do not talk to them on the phone ever. All communication needs to be in writing.

Also check your credit report, IC has a habit of adding a negative on it before your 30 days has elapsed. If it is showing you need to dispute it.

They might have your name but do they have legal proof you owe this and legal proof they have the right to collect it.

A simple dispute letter within the first 30 days usually sends them packing because 99% of the time they do not have the proof.

Ensure you deal with this.

Take legal advice as well to protect yourself from any chance of ID theft. Never assume anything about 'friends'.

If further action gets taken to recover the alleged debt, you could find yourself on the wrong end of a ruined credit score & life.

As for the name of the seller, I deleted that for privacy.
