How long does eBay keep your account records?

For people who have never been suspended or anything.

I would think that they'd clear the records every 5 - 10 years?

It's hard to believe that they'd still keep on file the IP Address someone used to create their account 8, 10, 12 years ago, they would need more and more server space as the progress and eBay is a penny pincher. Does anyone know? I could be wrong..

I am guessing since 1995

Q: How long does eBay keep your account records?

A: Forever, forever, ever, forever, ever...

I'm sorry Ms. Jackson (oh)
I am for real
Never meant to make your daughter cry
I apologize a trillion times

but really....it has been said, they keep them forever.

One IP address can take be up to 12 digits, and each digit only takes up about 3 bytes. 3x12 byte = 36 byte. A typical hard drive can store decades worth of personal information alone. If space runs out, they can just add another one.

lol they keep it forever

Along with their first pocket money, ebay/paypal keep everything.

Here's a tip .... even though info gets changed 'our' side and looks all new, the old info is on the ebay/paypal side.

So those super duper moves on that craiglist disaster might backfire :juggle:

im guessing long after we are all gone from this earth they will still be banning people with similar info to you

Keep the idea that electronic info is VERY easy to store forever and go stealth. Why bother even trying to push old info through? I can see some upside to it but if you were suspended once, who`s to say that you the risk of getting suspended again is high?

Would you please elaborate? I haven't the slightest clue what your talking about but I really want to know.

And also it should be illegal for ebay to keep our info. There should be a law that requires them to delete it every December 31st.

Forever.... Because that much information sells at a good price...

LMC1 12-28-2011 12:08 PM

Yup...Forever!!!

I made the same mistake of thinking ebay ran themselves like a credit report and deleted old info every 7 years or so. Not so! After waiting 7-10 years before opening a new account...a year later they found it and linked me to my old suspended account. All my info is still in their system. They even linked my boyfriends account to mine.

Unfortunately ebay is a company who can legally refuse service to whomever they wish. They don't run themselves like a credit report because they legally don't have to. After all it's not like they're ruining our credit by keeping our info...just our ability to sell on their site.

Luckily for me, banks and credit card companies don't run their companies the same way ebay does! :)
