Adding subtitles to the listings would work to add informations about the item.

we may have a winner here. now ebay can collect the fees on subtitles instead of people not using them because they had previously put the info in the picture

sounds about right:doh:

doughboykilla 03-08-2012 05:35 PM

Wonder how ebays going to find out if u have txt in your photos surely there not going to check every listing for this. and i dont see how a bot could detect txt in a photo.

seanws30 03-08-2012 05:58 PM

you dont think other sellers will assist ebay in pulling auctions that violate this new rule. surely this has never happened before with the other 10000000 rules ebay has.

doughboykilla 03-08-2012 08:15 PM

only people i would see reporting it would be competiors and maybe some ebuyers trying to earn browney points. The kinda of buyers u find posted up on the ebay fourms all day writeing blogs on how to spot f a k e items and bltching about everytime they got screwed on ebay.

Hercules 03-09-2012 08:15 AM

Even though it cost money those subtitles work.

I wonder if you can place a card along side the photo with all the extra messages you want to convey?

I don't mind paying the fees if it means less returns from buyers who don't read descriptions, and it's a good way to differentiate yourself from other sellers too.

GrannyT 03-09-2012 10:26 AM

Are we getting this in the UK?

baloch 03-09-2012 12:08 PM

I do not like this idea cause just like kingray said I hate reading long descriptions and see the picture read the red text and whats included.

I am in electronics so this really does not effect me.

KoltiKolt 03-10-2012 01:56 AM

what if I want to sell a book. I will take a photo of it. There will be a lot of text on book's cover. Will ebay remove my auction right away because I used text in the photo? :smash:

Sandy D 03-10-2012 02:45 AM

As a buyer it annoys me to see all that text.

I dont do it so it wont effect me.

GTB 03-10-2012 02:45 AM

thats is extreme but i wouldn't rule it out lol

no on a serious note,we are talking about adding text into the picture to promote the (spec) of your listing

the book will have this already so no i dont think a book would get removed

Sneakee 03-10-2012 06:25 AM

Ok maybe I'm not exactly getting what this is. I've read through the entire thread.

I've seen watermarks so I understand that people mark their photos. But what is this with the whole text in photos thing? I have two questions:

1. How would someone "abuse" that system (as a poster said they may be making this rule because people abused having text in their photo). Are people making photos with only text? Is that bad for some reason?

2. How does one buy an Ebay description? I've never heard of buying descriptions.

I'm so lost in what this is and why it's not going to be allowed. I've never even seen text in an Ebay photo before.

seanws30 03-10-2012 12:27 PM

ive seen photos that are actually just text. some say "ship free, 100%feedback, etc."

i dont really see what the big deal is. some of the pictures ive seen of sellers marketing clothing belong on adult websites. for them to go after text in photos just seems silly

Oh I guess I am starting to understand. So maybe people would make a photo with text that would include something that you're not supposed to say.

Since it's in a photo and not in the description Ebay won't catch it.

I guess I understand that.

Although it's really really stupid to focus on something like that.

What if you put text in a photo that you uploaded from flickr? Would they care about those or just the photos that you have uploaded through Ebay?

good question. i use inkfrog for all my listings so all of my pix are hosted by them. i didnt read the email that closely, but i dont recall if it said anything about just being enforced on pix hosted on ebays servers

My items are factory sealed mostly in brown boxes. No point taking pictures of plain brown boxes, lmao.

Maybe if you sell pre-owned stuff.
