One thing to note is that we will not require identity confirmation for newly registered users.
The entire response from the eBay pink is in reply 55 of 59.

It seems to me that only currently registered sellers are affected by this and once they will start rolling it out for everyone (in July, from what they're saying), it won't include newly registered accounts. Meaning that when they start putting the flash cookies into effect for everyone and you register a seller account, you won't need to go through identity (phone) verification. Credit card or a different verification (like linking your PayPal account) will be enough.

I guess what they will start doing is upon signup and when you create a seller account, they will plant a flash cookie. As long as you leave it, you won't need to verify your phone number.

Looks to me like they want to track down on the hijacking of old accounts by frauds.

So how do we get around the "flash cookie" problem? New user accounts on the computer?

So if i use firefox, I should not clear cookies closing my browser starting in July? Or does that not clear the flash cookies?

Just use different user accounts on your computer and you don't need to worry about clearing regular cookies or flash cookies.

You can have multiple users for one computer... set one up per eBay account and you won't have to delete ebay cookies.

Hi imjustme,

What a brilliant idea.

Does that each time one wants to go a new Windows user it is necessary to RESTART Windows?

Or can one just go to a new user without restarting the computer?

No need to restart. Just log off and switch accounts. Remember to still keep track of your IPs, though, so you don't log into 2 accounts with the same IP.

Another alternative is to use AOL, so you won't have to monitor IP address.

But doesn't Adobe flash put the flash cookie in one folder within the "c" drive and not in separate folders if you were to use separate users?

So you can have multiple user accounts on your pc but one folder for flash cookies. Therefore they can still track you just from that one flash cookie on your c drive and use it to link accounts, if they wish.

No, they're placed in different folders for each user. I'm already doing it with 30+ accounts.

For account "mickeymouse", they would be in:

Quote:
C:\Users\mickeymouse\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Fl ash Player
For account "jimmytravel", they would be in:

Quote:
C:\Users\jimmytravel\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Fl ash Player
So its all good

I use an Apple Mac.

Anyone know how this method works on a Mac?

And if on a MAc there might be problems with cookies.

ok, now I understand this whole thing(slowly but surely). I am wondering if its a bad idea to delete cookies in the first place? Or just delete everyone elses cookies except for ebays.

Also you guys, what I'm doing now is using VMware Workstation. I have a different VM and account per IP. I use a mobile broadband card for different Ips.

Either way works, I'm just too lazy to make multiple accounts on one windows box. You have to keep track of Ips no matter what though.
