NEW CHANGE: EBay REQUIRES a Credit Card to sell!!!

Me and another guy have been selling successfully, probably once a week for a year, and we just got this message when revising or listing something:
Quote:

Attention Sellers:
You're almost done with your listing. There's just one more thing to do. [Its so easy right?] It looks like you don't have a reimbursement payment method on file with us. Sellers must have a reimbursement payment method on file under our Buyer Protection Policy.

In order to complete your listing, please add your reimbursement payment method now . Once you're done, you'll be able to review and submit your listing.

Note: You can always change your selected reimbursement payment method in My eBay or cancel your reimbursement payment method by contacting us. Learn more about what eBay Buyer Protection means to sellers.

You’re placing an automatic payment method on file to pay for the following:
Reimbursements for claims under eBay's Buyer Protection Policy
The policy generally covers buyers if an item they purchase is not as described or doesn't arrive. If eBay pays the buyer up to the full purchase price plus original shipping costs for claims covered under eBay's Buyer Protection Policy, we'll charge this amount using the payment method you select below. Learn more about what eBay Buyer Protection means for sellers.
eBay may charge the payment method you select on a one-time, sporadic, or recurring basis. You can always change your selected payment method in My eBay or cancel your automatic payment method by contacting us

Select your automatic payment method

After you've set up your payment method you'll receive an automated phone call to confirm your identity. This is an important step to help keep eBay a safe place to buy and sell.

Select another payment method

Process refunds with another Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express credit card. You'll be able to enter your credit card information on the next page.
Its not a limitation thing at all. Its just the way things are now!

Maybe other people aren't getting the message if they have special seller status like powerseller, I dunno but I'm pretty sure this is gonna affect a lot of people!

This is going to suck...

arpichelago 06-10-2012 04:40 PM

My question, any reason you can't use a Paypal VCC for both purposes?

AmazonStealth 06-10-2012 06:02 PM

This isnt new info

Sandy D 06-11-2012 12:00 PM

Please spend time reading as this is nothing new and has been required for years now.

It shows me you have not spent any time reading through the credit card section or the verification section when you post something like this.

I don't see why you can't, until you need to pay for the services you use.

This is definitely a new thing. Why would be both get the notification at the same time? Did with both coincidentally hit a selling limit at the same time?

This is NOT new! I've been required to add CC's for listing and reimbursement purposes for at least around 2 years.

arpichelago 06-12-2012 02:17 AM

What triggers it then?

MM78 06-12-2012 02:54 AM

The Trigger, That you never gave them a CC to begin with.

Bunneh 06-12-2012 03:31 AM

old news :juggle:
But like OP said, he only sellers one week out of the year.

Someone needs to spend more time reading.

What triggers it is the fact that you open a sellers account.

We ALL have to do this and have for a long time.

TeamUp 06-15-2012 12:41 AM

This is such an old rule. If you want to do a one month sell or something and you dont care about your account, then just get yourself a gift card and use that (use it up but leave like $2 in it). So when they go to charge you, they wont have any money to take!

Elijah 06-15-2012 03:00 AM

I've never been required to add a credit card... PayPal has been enough on its own. So all these responses seem foreign to me.

That is what he was saying...? "The Trigger, That you never gave them a CC to begin with." He is saying that since they were never provided with card details, that is why the requested it...

But don't they give you the option of direct PP as payment option OR credit card. In other words they prefer PP, and make it harder to use any other option.

Well, that's the way it seems to me.

eternity4u 06-15-2012 04:49 AM

I think Paypal would not require a credit card....they would lose so much business (has if they already don't rob our money enough). Many people do not have credit cards.

stillconfused 06-15-2012 05:49 AM

What is new to me, as I've been away awhile is the option when you try to list for the first time. Usually if you select PP as the payment option they let you through, now it doesn't matter, they require phone verification what ever option you choose, CC or PP.

At this rate feebay will open options for other sites to, either start up or get more traffic.

I'm considering moving onto other sites as I can't afford all the new requirements.

bigtimeseller 06-15-2012 09:52 PM

Not new at all, only sellers that have sold for a while do not have this..
All new sellers go through this process everytime

stillconfused 06-16-2012 06:38 AM

EB are supposed to add $2 to your CC for verification and then it's transferred to PP. I've just had $2 taken from my CC and I can't find out who withdrew it?

They dont transfer to PP. Was it $1.95 exactly? If so, then it was def eBay. They will refund it back to your card (not PP) within a couple days to 2 weeks!

Might just be for USA accounts?

tesco_1 06-16-2012 07:36 PM

Also got this message for the first time today on a legit account (this morning) while listing a high end item. I've had accounts since 2003, and this is the first time I've seen this.
