eBay lies about the contact information requirement.
eBay lies about the contact information requirement.
Here's the full quote just for historical purposes, feel free to scroll past it as the important part is highlighted afterward. Quote:
Hello,
It has been brought to our attention that the contact information we
have on file for you may be incorrect and may need to be updated. Please
take a moment to check your records by following the instructions
included below.
---BEGIN INSTRUCTIONS---
* Click My eBay at the top of most eBay pages.
* From the left column of My eBay, under My Account, click the “Personal
Information” link . The Personal Information page displays.
* On the right side of the page, click the “Edit” or “Add” link next to
the information you want to update.
* Change any information, as needed, and click the Save button.
---END INSTRUCTIONS---
We realize that your contact information may not be accurate due to an
oversight or privacy concerns; however, the ability to communicate
between eBay members and with eBay Support is a requirement of being an
eBay member. Also, in our efforts to combat Internet fraud, we must
adhere to strict guidelines regarding a member's registration
information for the safety of the entire eBay community.
Please note that this information must be changed or checked, within 24
hours. Otherwise, eBay will have to suspend your registration until such
time as the updated information is received.
If you are uncomfortable with the current eBay policy requirement that
all users provide and keep current contact information, you may want to
provide a valid voice mail phone number or work number in place of your
home telephone number. Both options are acceptable as contact
information. Contact numbers that are not acceptable are: fax machines,
pager numbers, modems or disconnected numbers.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this important matter.
Regards,
Lona

The lie is "may want to provide a valid voice mail phone number or ... in place of your home telephone number"
It is a lie because their phone verification system is done to prevent it from working on voicemail. I tried and voicemails refuse to save the sound of numbers being pressed in the message.
