who sells on craigslist

I'm thinking about just saying to hell with ebay and just move over to craigslist ...just wanted to know what sells the best.

jscan 05-24-2008 11:45 PM

obviously ebays going to be better profit wise wouldn't it i mean its the worlds number 1 auction site and has been for years.

I suppose the advantage of craigslist would be the fact that you wouldnt have to put up with all the bs ebay puts you through.

tvaughan08 05-24-2008 11:54 PM

yeah, i think i might still sell on ebay just for that fact, but not dealing with the B.S is a big plus

GreenBean 05-24-2008 11:58 PM

Had experience with craiglist in WA state. I found it terrible! A lot of what was being offered for sale was not of good quality and where actually selling, would be buyers wanted to pay the lowest possible price. Another thing that I found annoying was when a buyer was 'meant' to be coming to look at an item but
never turned up or phoned to make alternative arrangements.

Of course I do not know what you are selling but I would hope there would be other options.

Pick big cities to post in like LA, Chicago, NY, Houston where there are big populations. It's an odds game. Ironically when I sell on ebay I get very little sales from New Yorkers so go figure. It might be better just to advertise on craigslist.

I've listed used items on craigslist. I've never had a buyer.

I get lots of scammers who want to send a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ money order and usually using advanced fee scams, too. I tell them I accept credit card, too, but people only want to do money order. When I told them I'm now doing postal money orders only, then suddenly nobody emailed me anymore.

sdot10 05-25-2008 08:59 AM

craigslist is really good for bigger items i think. Laptops sell pretty good, so do things like phones.

The scams dont really bother me because they are usually really bad and can be spotted a mile away. What really annoys me is how cheap people are. I have a few MacBook Pros that I wanted to sell that are valued at over $3000 and they wanted to give me offers of like $1500 and crap.

2eXclusiive 05-25-2008 09:42 AM

it depends where you are located and what you are selling, price is also important, ive had a few sales on craigslist.

tvaughan08 05-25-2008 10:44 AM

thanks you guys, I'm building my own site as well, it's just ebay's got to the point as to where creating accounts is so much of a hassel. I'm still in the fight though as of now...who knows i might stick around till ebay gets sued.

ebay-sucks 05-25-2008 12:48 PM

I tried it and did not like it. Sold a few items. I found that people want flea market - yard sale prices for better items.
Wasnt worth the hassle.

2eXclusiive 05-25-2008 01:07 PM

yea, it really sucks everyone i mean EVERYONE wants a better price.

tvaughan08 05-25-2008 04:25 PM

lol @ flea market prices.

2eXclusiive 05-25-2008 04:43 PM

if you price your item at 100
they will offer 30
and they wont go above 35-40

tvaughan08 05-25-2008 05:33 PM

really? yeah they trippin

2eXclusiive 05-25-2008 07:23 PM

yea and even then the $100.00 is half the retail price.

twdell 05-26-2008 07:59 AM

i thought i read a story about women prostituting themselves on craiglist? like a women escort service.

tvaughan08 05-26-2008 08:38 AM

yeah its a lot of that on craigslist, im not sure if they make money, but who knows.

2eXclusiive 05-26-2008 08:45 AM

yea, that even came on the news, they got arrested.

imthatguy 05-27-2008 01:52 AM

Craigslist sucks. I usually use Craigslist to advertise my 4 websites i have but other then that its good for selling items around the house you want to get rid of real fast...

orbit 05-27-2008 05:31 AM

Ebay owns shares in Craigslist. Craigslist is sueing eBay for some kind of conflict of interest because Ebay now has kajiji.(sp?) another classified site.
Anyways, I've heard of people making good money on CL offering services like SEO/web design kind of stuff selling to mid-size corporations.
