Default Why does ebay pull the whole item when their is fraud

Ive really always wondered about this. Like you sell an item and the top bidder turns out to be bidding with a hijacked caccount or something of that nature.

Has anyone spoken with an ebay spokesman or anything about it and their official reasoning for why they pull the whole auction as if it never existed. One could argue it has been tainted but.

1. The second highest bidder may still want the item
2. It doesnt change what the 2nd highest bidder wouldve paid. (If Real bidder bids $15 and scammer bids $17 and ruins auction, that doesnt mean real bidder wouldnt still pay $15)
3. Its actually taking money from ebay since they immediately credit you, if you sell to someone else and dont repost that takes money from ebay.

Ive just never understood why they do it the way they do. Anyone have any ideas?

I guess if they leave it, the transaction could still go through with the scammer?

I don't like it either, but oh well.
