deadbeat buyer. Should I risk retaliation?
 

I have an account that's probably two years old. I didn't use it for probably a year and eBay reset my positive feedback to zero. Now I have a rating of 1. Already had a deadbeat buyer that hasn't paid or responded to email. He has all positive feedback,68 I think. I read thru it and five people left positives but said he never paid. I am not sure why they would leave positives? Anyway with a rating of only 1, I am wondering if I should report that he hasn't paid or just let it go. I am afraid I might get some retaliation and the account is in a relatives name so I have to be careful with it. What do you guys think?

if you don't want the hassle, email them again. if no response, just cancel the transaction

You can file a non payer case for this auction.
Once you file it he can no longer leave you a negative feedback so no need to worry about retaliation.
And if a negative feedback is left BEFORE the case was filed it is removed by ebay automatically once you close the non payer case four days later without the buyer making payment.
Do NOT just cancel the transaction. This will leave you open to him refusing your request. This means:
1. You get stuck paying the auction fees.
2. He now has the option of leaving you a negative feedback without you being able to do anything about it.

Thanks Slokor. That clears things up. Thats what I am going to do. If sellers wont keep letting him slide maybe he will get the picture. Either that or he will learn the hard way.

This is the best advice, if you ever get people that never pay, Never ever try to cancel the transaction. If the person denies it are out money in fees. I never cancel any transaction, even if the person asks me to cancel it.

I have had this done to me, buyer messages me to cancel the transaction and then denies it and never pays up. I am out the ebay fees on the sold item. Just move on and block the person from all future transactions in all your accounts.

You'll also want to set your buyer requirements to limit deadbeats that have had 2 or more unpaids in the last 12mos (that's as tight as eBay lets you go). That will cut back on a ton.

i usually just always cancel the transaction rather than file a non-paying bidder alert because ive had people in the past open a new account just to buy something and leave a negative...avoids all the troubles plus you get your fees back!

is this a business or are you just screwing around? Do stores normally retaliate against customers that give them issues? no. :>

File an unpaid claim and move on bro. There is no need to get crazy over certain idiots on the web.

In order to leave a negative feedback with a new account you need to:
1. Wait at least 5 days for the account to be able to leave the feedback which is something most non payer ebayers out there wont bother with just to 'stick it' to someone.
2. Make payment on an item - which was the original issue to begin with.
Doesnt happen very often. At least not to me.

This. You need to I think its 4 or 7 days past before you can open a non paying bidder case. Open the case, he has a few days to pay. After a few days has past, you can log on and close the case. You will get your fees back and he will get a check on his account. When buyers get so many checks, they get banned.

unpaid item case is the way to go... back in the day you could get a neg for making the guy (in the good old days) but not anymore :) Even if he does pay, and ends up leaving a neg and mentions the case in the feedback, ebay has to remove it per their TOS

i'm sorry this is kinds off topic, but in the first post i read that if you do not use your ebay account, they will cancel all feedback???

They don't cancel the feedback, but your feedback score eventually will be reset to zero percent. I think it's a rolling 12 months?
