How long do you guys think ebay will be around, as a company? I guess as long as people keep buying and selling and eBay is making money on the trading and fees, they should be around.

That's partly the reason y I pay my ebay fees. I want ebay and paypal to stick around so I can continue to make money. lol. It's kinda like a monthly investment I guess. They just need to be more consistent and not make so many changes.

eBay may very well do that, but another auction site will pop up and take over from eBay eventually. eBay cannot assassinate auctions.

RE gibsonton:

Yes, Amazon allows the sale of used items and this is where I make most of my money. eBay will not phase out the sale of used items. That's ridiculous paranoia.

you sell used stuff on amazon? i just think it is really risky selling used items on amazon, too easy for buyers to make an A-Z claim or give negative feedbacks.

ovidiu 01-14-2010 04:44 PM

I sell software. Basically nothing else. Risk is much lower than other categories, I completely agree about the A to Z stuff on say, electronics.

This will not happen so do not believe everything. Ebay is an auctionsite .Now if they were only going to sell new stuff then im saying that the end is near for them and they will shut down.Auctions are still #1 people want the lowest price. What happens the the people selling rare old car parts and all the categories that they have all have to be new? I do not believe it Amazon is its own identity Ebay will not work in that fashion....

gibsonton 01-17-2010 05:49 PM

Ebay will not stop letting people sell used items ..they are just trying to get people to quit selling items they end up in court over and want sellers to pay the proper fees by not overcharging on shipping-which is why they offer the incentives for free shipping and went to the rating sytem .My Buddy sells used dvd-vhs and cds on amazon full time .The guy knows every move out of print and it is a huge market for it .

ovidiu 01-17-2010 09:21 PM

Man, selling DVD's and VHS on Amazon is the riskiest category on that site. Instant suspension if Amazon even suspects burned media or what not.

I DON'T BELIEVE THIS WILL HAPPEN !

However it could be both good and bad news.
The more ebay eliminates , the more room they open up for competition!
If they eliminate auctions they open up the playing field for Google or Microsoft.
Perhaps the best result for all of us at this forum , is an end to ebay , and the beggining of a more sustainable future with a new marketplace that would perhaps be more friendly to its sellers.

I dont think eBay will ever get rid of auctions ever. See I use ever twice.

Auction and eBay go hand in hand.

eseller 01-27-2010 11:27 PM

No more auctions - Are you sure??
