what about this auction site
 

ricardo (dot) ch, it used to be called QXL, however there site is more active then ebay switzerland. Clever company they are mainly in countries where eBay isnt, or they cant get a positive foothold in, such as eastern european countries.. maybe the days of QXL can come back to UK like it once did 8 years ago?

Quite a nice looking auction site. Judging buy the items having BIDS, obviously gets the traffic/interest as well.

They're quite popular in Europe and have been for many years.

just try my luck, not easy to become a seller there if you are not located in Switzerland. Maybe there are some members around who have done it?

They require a Swiss address because they will send you the activation code by post.
You must use a Swiss IP during activation otherwise they will refuse selling status.
Since they had a lot of issues with scammers, I believe they require some additional documents if you start selling an item more than once (if you just an hobby seller, selling used stuff from your household they don't ask much)
Not sure about bank accounts and other requirements.

I happen to have a Swiss address, but I didn't know about the IP thing when I registered. I can get get seller status (most probably) but it will take me a lot of bs and time.

Looking at the potential of ricardo, it would be worth for me to buy an stealth account that enables me to sell the same item over and over again.

Honestly, I don't see how you could sell there if they require an activation code sent to the address on file.....

That's interesting, they are popular in Europe and have history as such yet no one can sell on there unless they have a Swiss address and Swiss IP to get started! Maybe they are not that popular after all.

I don't know how popular they are in Europe, but they are number 1 in Switzerland, before eBay. Probably similar to bidorbuy in South Africa.

It is an interesting market because Switzerland is in general more expensive then the rest of Europe. Some people might use eBay Germany to have better deals but if you offer your product for a reasonable price the will prefer Ricardo.

Furthermore economy is very stable and spending power is much higher than the rest of Europe.
