People from my city buying from me on eBay? Would this raise flags?

I was going to post some local ads on Craigslist & Kijiji for the same items that I also have on eBay. These are just small items that I'm selling super cheap so I can build 15-20 seller feedbacks on my new Stealth account. Anyway, if someone locally saw my ad (from Craigslist or Kijiji) and wanted to buy, I'd direct them to my eBay listing and ask them to Buy It Now through there, then come pick it up from me (or I'd ship to them if they're lazy).

So my question is - Would too many local buyers raise flags? From eBay's point of view it might look like I'm getting friends or family to buy my items and of course I dont want them to think that.

Depends how big the city is and how often I guess.

A sole buyer from the same village may take a bit more explaining

Population is definitely around 1 million I think

GrannyT 09-07-2012 03:42 PM

That's nothing - we have 380 in our village

Lol really? So I should be ok then eh?

I see local people selling these items for $10 and $20. My price would be $4 lol. Hoping to get a lot of quick feedback off these :P

Should be fine.

Lol thanks, you're always reassuring me :thumb:

Should not be a problem.

Be careful of the amount you do sell however.

Dont suddenly list 40 items at a super cheap price.

Avoid the (remote) chance ebay could see this as feedback manipulation. :spy:

They're just handmade bracelets..Will list them for $3-4 each

I'd list until I got 15-20 feedbacks. Then sell the rest on another account (different photos, description, etc..)

You should be fine, Just ensure that you check the 'local pick up' option

If I do a "local pick up" can they pay me in cash? Or does it have to be through PayPal? Of course I'd prefer cash lol

GreenBean 09-07-2012 08:11 PM

Man, you NEVER do paypal for these types of transactions.

The protection you get from paypal is ziltch, nada.

Cash on pick up :thumb:

lol, Yup. As GB said, always take cash for this type of transaction.
If they insist on paypal just move on, 9 times out of 10, they will try to scam you.

There are a couple problems wrong with what you are trying to do here.....

1) If they are on craigslist than they most likely or do not want to use ebay. I know this isnt always the case, but there on that specific site for a reason. They want it cheap and they want it now. If you post it on craigslist and then redirect them to ebay, and then expect them to come get it, then I think you are making them do way too much and for most people they will just forget it.

2) There are must easier ways to get feedback.

And I'd be offering the items at a super cheap price. Most on Craigslist/Kijiji would be $10-15-20, while I'd sell for $4-5.
(These items are non-branded by the way. Very small & easy to ship)

How could I possibly get scammed? :S

mcmx 09-08-2012 01:04 PM

I'd also be posting in surrounding cities (like 2-4 hours away). It would basically just be advertising my eBay auction on Craigslist and Kijiji lol :P Of course people who live outside the city would have to pay by PayPal & get it shipped to them
