Requesting higher limits

I hope this question is okay on this thread.

If you max out your selling limit, there is a message saying your limit is reach.

You can request higher selling limits or wait till the next month to list more.

Is it safe to request it? I keep reading that its best to have little to no contact with ebay, so I didn't know if it would be risky.

MM78 09-17-2012 10:41 AM

Well you have read the advice given, proceed at your own risk. Unfortunately we cannot hold your hand and tell you it's gonna be fine. Some have reported that it works but then some have pushed it too far so it's up to you to call ebay and ask for higher limits.

Be prepared with all account info if you do call.

afarmington 09-17-2012 06:04 PM

I don't think it is actually a phone call, I know for sure I don't want to do that. There is a link stating 'request higher selling limits' on the same page that shows I maxed out for my selling this month.

I'm not very good at conveying my questions properly, I apologize. I have been reading a lot since I'm trying to do this right. Calling paypal and ebay, bugging them, I am certain that is a no no.

My question is, since this is something ebay came to me with so to speak, rather than me instigating, would that make a difference?

There are a lot of stealth sellers who have been successfully doing it for quite a while. I was hoping if any of them have done it, without issues, they would weigh in :)

GreenBean 09-17-2012 06:18 PM

To give accurate advice, it would be better to say what your current limits are & a vague description of what you sell.
Age of account
Is the paypal fully verified & confirmed?
What feedback do you have so far

It's 50-50 for proceeding to increase your limits & a further reply depends on these replies :juggle:

afarmington 09-17-2012 06:29 PM

Limit is 10/500.00.

I sell just odds and ends, garage sale type items mostly, with occasional coupon stockpile extras. Not the coupons, but the stuff I get with them, mostly HBA.

Account is close to 90 days.

Feedback is between 60 and 70, almost all from buying. FB from selling is very good too.

I'm verified with PP.

GreenBean 09-17-2012 06:31 PM

Honest reply?

Sell for two more cycles at this rate.

Sell up to your max.

Re-appraise situation then.

Good Luck :juggle:

afarmington 09-17-2012 06:43 PM

Thank you! I will hold off, and resist the temptation. Its hard with a room full of stuff begging to be sold. But patience is a virtue as they say :)

I will max out the sales $ to the limit or hopefully go slightly over. I have a couple BINS that I have a feeling will not sell, buyer interest just isn't there.

If they don't, I have a couple higher priced items to replace them with to get to my limit :) Thank you again, this forum (and guide) have been such a blessing!

slim jim 09-17-2012 06:59 PM

if only eve didn't eat the apple! :)

afarmington 09-17-2012 07:30 PM

If Eve AND Adam didn't, I would not be worried about eBay. I would be walking around nekkid and not caring who saw me  But since they did, I'm stuck doing what we are all doing lol.

makaveliagain 09-18-2012 03:36 AM

I really wish people would read through the previous posts. This has been asked in form or another at least 5 times over the last few months.

alvaritonoboa666 09-18-2012 08:01 AM

If you request higher selling limits, ebay checks the public record of the name you wrote. If you know the answers, they increase the limit to 100 units, if the name is ⊗⊗⊗⊗, you will keep the 10 unit limit. Hope this helps

or they will limit you and ask for proof of identity

afarmington 09-18-2012 06:16 PM

I won't be requesting it. In case this account is able to stay open, I don't want to risk screwing it up :)

usually you do, just depends on your DSR ratings.. keep them good and you are guaranteed an increase

alvaritonoboa666 09-20-2012 09:29 PM

Do they give you an automatic increase after 90 days? If i am in 10 units, how many units will go up?

makaveliagain 09-21-2012 04:34 AM

No, it is based on feedback $$ sales and quantity sold. Best thing you can do is max out your number of sales and amount sold and get good feedback.

imjustme 09-22-2012 02:14 AM

I won't tell you what to do, but I will tell you my golden #1 rule on eBay:

Never contact eBay, for anything.

That should be written in RED all over the forum

You are also at a good moment to begin build other accounts to nurture and grow.

slapped 09-22-2012 10:02 AM

Well OP you have heard it from a LOT of WELL RESPECTED Forum members here, Now I too will Chime in,,,Do NOT contact Ebay and Invite the Possibility scrutiny to your account, leave you selling limits alone,, they WILL get higher on their own,,it may take a while, but it is SAFER

Callidus 09-22-2012 01:28 PM

Build on more accounts and eventually they will increase quicker than you think as you should be maxing out each account.

Its like building a house, add one brick at a time.

afarmington 09-22-2012 05:56 PM

Thank you for the advice everyone! The account in question is not totally stealth, I don't think so anyways. I created it and logged on many times on my iphone, thinking only IP addy would catch me. Since I used my phone for my old account, I think it was a mistake, after reading the forums. But since I'm able to sell thus far, I would like to keep it as long as I can.

Opened another bank account, new PO, gmail, new IP and user account, so armed with everyone's advice on here, I'm ready to open a second, then third and probably end with a fourth one. Y'all are awesome!!!

ebayhatesus 09-23-2012 05:10 PM

Sorry I dont have time to read through all the posts. I have seen some regarding how to raise limits. For a certain account type you get a letter through the door with a code. No phone calls. This is a good method if you have access... its up to you what you do as others say

How long have you been selling on this account, that you have logged in/out of both new and old accounts from same iphone?

If you make more accounts, i wouldnt suggest you keep logging in on the same iphone for all accounts

My friend, you've gotten alot of advice on the issue here already. Green Bean and imjustme have hit the nail on the head and they are GREAT and respected guys on this forum and so is aspkin and other moderators. Okay that having been said, here is MY OWN experience: I have called ebay to raise limits and it worked all the time without a problem. Here was my steps:

1. I sold non-vero items
2. I had pretty good feedback below above 20 but they gave me a very good DSR
3. I have been selling for more than 60 days.
4. I sell and buy with my accounts.

So here is the thing: If you ever call or plan to call but it's at YOUR OWN risk if you do and you are not prepared for questions from eaby.

1. BE CONFIDENT on the phone and whatever you do DO NOT stammer
2. BE VERY POLITE with whoever takes your call
3. Be PREPARED to answer questions about your account info. and what you sell
4. You have HIGHLY likelihood of being lucky if a guy takes your call

All this being said, my advice is simple: DON'T DO IT!! if you can't handle it. I have had bitter experiences with ebay and I've learned alot, all thanks for aspkin, green bean and other moderators and administrators who help keep the forum running. I still have a lot to learn though and my next step is to buy the ebay stealth guide because there's too many things to learn and if you stick to the forums long enough you will LEARN more. :attention:

What info do they ask you for? I put in my name (altered the spelling a little, but used everything else correctly) what else could they ask for.
