Which do you prefer?? High ticket items, low volume OR ....

As the title states ... Which do you prefer?? High ticket items, low volume OR Low valued items but high quantity?

Right now I find myself with low valued items and having ALOT IN STOCK which means I am selling items everyday. However, it takes alot of sales/work to see the numbers I like to see. Which makes me think, should I switch my product to something of higher value or I'm in the right playing field?? :noidea:

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

If you're working solo high ticket/low volume is way better imo, less time to pack and ship, less inquiries, returns etc. I shoot for $50 profit per item nowadays, especially for stealth accounts that start at only 10 items per month. You're gonna need a lot of stealth accounts if you're only making $5-$10 a sale.

Plus my brother does low ticket/high volume with body jewelry. It looks like a pain in the ass all the packing he does everyday. 100+ padded envelopes takes up too much time, then he has to deal with returns, questions, more listing. Ugh :ballchain: I actually cut my body jewelry account after it started taking up half of my working time for a fraction of the profit.

I like your concept. Makes alot of sense. Now my question for you is, to achieve making a $50 profit per sale. Does it matter how much money you have invested into the product? Let's say $300 at cost to sell for $400 (than subtract shipping/pp/ebay fees) Or is there a limit on how much your willing to invest to clear $50 profit?!?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I agree with Jamblix.

I did low value/high volume and it was soooo not worth it in the end. too many sales can also lead to a lot of cases/disputes which will in turn compromise your account.

I use the Low Value/High Volume approach.
I would rather make $5 Net 25 times than $100 Net once.

I used to fluctuate between the two in my heavy wheeling days. I still like the big yield-low volume in general because of all the packing and hauling off to the postal office.

I like my lower value 25-100 items and high volume.

I do toss in higher value items as well and do well but I have found after all the years of buying and selling my type of items I keep my 75-80 sell through rate because of my pricing etc.

Very high items create risk and issues, low price items tend to not give you much hassle.

I can match most high dollar sellers probably in dollar amount. Sure I do a lot more work but in the end less time and hassles.

Most high dollar items have to be relisted and relisted in most cases. I want my items to sell the first time and they do in a high rate.

this.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people on here shipped over 200 items a week while I ship 200 max. in an entire month lol

If anyone's willing to share, how much (quantity wise) do you sell/ship monthly?

I'm kinda curious

I have taken more then that to the PO in a single day.

I would be disappointed in myself if I did not take 50 or more any time I went to the PO.

My best weekend EVER was over 1200 items.
2012 Black Friday weekend.

I prefer to sell items that average $100 profit each and sell 1 per day per account, much simpler, less work and more money in my pocket=)

There is a thread from a while back with many posters stating how many items they sell. Some amazing numbers if I remember.

Search for it, you might be shocked.

There is arguments for both tactics.
High volume with low margins usually means less problems but a lot more work dealing with it all .
Low volume with high profits can be problematic as you only need see 1 or 2 returns to ruin your month and customers who have paid a high value for an item seem to think they own you so customer relations must be spot on.
I think the trick is a combination of both so it balances itself out.
Why limit yourself with guidelines .
As long as your selling your earning regardeless of what it is.

Sandy D 01-10-2013 09:11 AM

Whatever works for YOU is the way to go.

A bit of both works well for me.

More lower price brings me just a much money and sales volume and more profits but I also toss in the higher priced items as I do them the higher price antiques a lot.

golden_monkey 01-11-2013 04:12 PM

im tight profit, high vol... you bust it everyday, but I enjoy that. I'm a workoholic robot.

im slowly ramping up a little more each week.

corleone 01-12-2013 12:39 PM

I use a mixture of both. low profit, high volume items on accounts with lower feedback until I can get the numbers up a bit. Once my accounts are proven to be good, I switch to low volume high profit items.

My low profit items avg 10-40 dollars profit per item in auction format. My high profit items, can range from 50-300 dollars per item. It really just depends. I shoot for 300 low profit items per month and 50 high profit per month. Of course, there's only a few months out of the year where I can hit these numbers with that profit. The rest of the year it's much slower and less profitable.

Speeder33 01-12-2013 04:17 PM

im kinda lazy so high profit is what i look for

why would i spend 10x longer doing everything when it makes me the same amount of money?

AmazonStealth 01-12-2013 04:39 PM

95% $10-$30 items x10,000+ a month, 5% $100-1,000+ x20 a month

Low Cost High Volume is the key to success.

sadly I saw this on my hacked account. I rather sell high ticket/low volume items... less stress, less complaints, win-win.

This is normally a good way to go as well :). I'd wait till I get to 100 SELLING feedbacks before selling high ticketed items like iphones, high end tvs etc, etc. It helps having more than one account too ;)
