Auctiva to compete with EB

I just got off the phone with an Auctiva rep, and I was asking him about some features I wanted in Auctiva.

He was very frank with me, and said all of their resources are focused on building a competitor to EB, which they hope to open this year...2nd or 3rd quarter.

it is no secret that alibaba owns auctiva. alibaba and ebay are sworn enemies...

My god I would dance for joy in the streets to have an actual rival to ebay.

Amazon just doesn't generate nearly the same revenue, and the other sites like ebid, ioffer, bonanza. . .they just suck.

Ive sold on Alibaba for a number of years .
There customer relations towards sellers just about sucks as much as ebays .
Items removed - account closures and all the usual stuff .
So unless they up there game with this new venture i cant see them keeping many legit sellers .

I could be wrong but isnt ebay one of the largest shareholders in Alibaba?

Etsy has done something no other site has been able to do and broke into many ebay customers bases. Etsy has grown by leaps and bounds and for me I am finding some of the same customers who I have sold to buying of my on Etsy.

So it can be done, Etsy has.

If Auctiva wants to compete they need to do some better customer service.
I had issues with many accounts over the last year and little to no response from them.

Another I will believe it when I see it accomplished.

Auctiva should have plenty of info on customers as they get the buyer info when you load your account etc.

So far I have not had any issues.

Knock on wood.

I've always wondered why Auctiva doesn't support other venues. I wouldn't think it would take much effort for them to also allow us to post items to Etsey. But, I guess it makes sense, if they plan on opening their own auction site.

But, wait a sec.... Auctiva supports Amazon too, right? So, if Auctiva opened their own auction venue, do you think they'd still support EB postings and Amazon postings?

do you have experience selling on etsy? what is their niche? it has to be vintage hand made? this whole liberal hipster tree hugging movement is getting bigger and bigger especially in la...might be worth looking into

ETSY is for independent art work, clothing, etc. It is not like eBay. It is really for people look for one of a kind items from unique sellers.

ateep22 02-15-2013 01:06 AM

anyone have any experience on etsy? anyone have a store and sell stuff? i did some research, it has to be hand made, 20 years old, or supplies only...plus their fees are really low...15 million users..its like an ecommerce flea market..
