Are used DVDs, video games high risk on new account?

One of the new stealths I'm building I was wondering if selling DVDs, blu rays and pc xbox games etc used items would be high risk, I don't plan to list 20 in one day but if I start out slow would I be risking the account or should I stick to other crappy items until I get some seller feedback?

Sandy D 02-20-2013 09:19 PM

I would not sell those items on a new account. List other items get a few feedback and then move a few in here and there.

Multiple accounts spreading your stock is wise.

Yes, almost anything electronics is high risk on a new account. You could be selling Nintendo games from the early 90's and unfortunately the eBay system does deem those as high risk.

Ok I guess I'll just sell junk around the house and garage sale stuff to get em started:juggle:

This is always the safest and smartest way to start

Agree with selling junk - get some feedback then move some used games but be mindful of the price...i would not list too low

I've never had issues listing games or movies. I just make sure I take my own pictures to prove I own the items.

i too also sometimes sell used dvds to get the feedback rolling before listing my high risk items and i start slow with the listing and ive never had a problem with ebay shuting down a new account for dvds but hey maybe im just lucky

rsot 02-22-2013 04:52 AM

Could be you dont list too low - starting slow is good - not just luck :)

Sometimes depends on what used DVDs get listed.
Another factor can be the time of year.

Agree on time of the year playing a part but, in all honesty, much less risky items to sell initially before attempting dvd and used games since so MANY people do that.

I actually seen pictures with the purchase receipt in the picture.

Lots of times I list used dvd's and blu-rays. We buy new releases when they come out. We have a few places we buy online which are quite a bit cheaper than buying them at bestbuy or walmart. We'll watch the movie and 90% of the time, sell the movie afterwards and get real close to what we paid for it in auction format, sometimes even more.

It's a great way to build feedback on new accounts and get to watch new release movies for low cost/free/or at profit.

I have tried to sell a box set of a tv series after we watched it and it got taken down. I'd say box sets are considered high risk, but used movies not so much, I've sold hundreds on zero feedback accounts.

Good to know! I'll stay away from TV Series while accounts are still new, maybe I'll try with one account to throw a couple of old dvds and test for my self.

I actually bought a pallet of newer movies that were liquidations from Red Box and Blockbuster. I am going to test some new accounts with them to see how they do.

When the new Batman Movie came out in December...
They had this Limited Edition set cost $50 I was selling them for $99.99e
I sold 30 of them all on a brand new account and I was instantly questioned by eBay. Of course, I was using my legitimate account and told them that only 2500 exist in Canada and everywhere is sold out. It worked enough for them to let me keep selling...

But, I still have limits on my account after 5 months

5 months of selling is nothing for an eBay account. You have to have lots of good feedback and multiple years of selling before eBay and PayPal really let you loose. I say it all the time it like a credit score. The longer you are one ebay/paypal and the more feedback, sales, and everything to build a good reputation the less they will bug you about anything. I know it is a pain but just keep getting good feedback try to avoid returns, disputes and charge-backs and it will go a long way. It takes patience to build solid accounts now. If you want to sell in the long run just play by their rules as frustrating as it may be.

I think used DVD or games are ok, but you have to think logically. A normal person wouldn't have like 50 copies of used BF3, so you can list 1, and of course, use real picture (try to avoid stock as much as possible). And in the picture, show the DVD, case, everything so that eBay will think that you are just an average Joe trying to get rid of his old games.
Personally I made 2 accounts and immediately use all selling limit in the first week and it's still fine. One of my accounts got upgraded to 350 items in one month. So I guess it's up to you to make your listing sounds "legit"
