Pay close attention to ebay shipping charges
 

The last few times I've printed off a usps shipping label, they automatically checkmarked the box next to the $2 charge for signature confirmation. In parentheses it says something like, "ebay suggested it for you".

I've never noticed it in the past, but I thought I would let you all know in case it's doing this for you as well. Shipping costs are already ridiculously high; I'm not about to pay an extra $2 for each package.

I don't know how usps is doing so bad financially. I guess they're going to stop delivering mail on saturdays come august of this year. My post office always has a huge line of people, and with postage priced so high...I don't understand how they're doing so poorly.

I think they have 5 retirees or so for every current working postal worker.

Retirees average 3500.00-4000.00 net per month after 30 years of service in retirement money.

USPS is working behind from day one of the month because they also give retirees free health care and other benefits.

You should try Canada Post for a change, you'd probably cry.

Once you uncheck it the first time it should stay that way, or there should be another button to check that saves your setting for all labels.

It only does this for items $250 or more. The reason it checks the box off is because that us the only way you are eligible for "seller protection" on the item which STILL means nothing to ebay. Why dont you read?

For anything over $250 I check the box. $2.00 is well worth it for a case in which the buyer can say he never received it.

For orders under $250 just go with DC.

Follow eBay's rules and procedures and it's much easier to protect yourself. Ebay loves sellers who follow their rules.

Under $250 just DC? For me anything over $50 is worth that extra $2 for SC.

If it goes to a item not received clam for under $250, I've never lost a case where I had DC to prove delivery. I've had a couple of these types of cases in the last year out of a few thousand packages shipped. The cases where DC showed item delivered, I won the cases.

For an item under $50, it's definitely not worth it. How many packages do you mail in a week? How often do you get item not received claims? Do the math.

If you ship off 1000 packages for ever item not received claim, that's $2000 spent, for what? One $50 dollar item? Be smart about it, it's simple economics.

I'm halfway tempted to not even buy it on expensive items just based on the odds and the cost involved, but for me, I do it anyway's to make ebay happy in case there's ever a case. I can show, I alway's play by the rules, and another thing to look at: Some scammers target high value items with low feedback sellers, hoping they won't know the rules. Most of my accounts have less than 100 feedback, but I know the rules very well.

For rarer items that I can not replace I use it for the 100 or more.

Under 100 I just do the DC.

If the items gets bid up like crazy and many of mine do, I add it for the 2.00 it is well worth it.

Agreed, anything over $250 Signature is a must. Otherwise the person can scam you. Especially if they you sell to another seller who knows about how Seller protection works the jerk will scam you in a second.

Ebay doesn't look at how rare an item is, or how much profit you made off it. If it's over $250 they will require it, if it's under $250, DC is required. It doesn't serve any other purpose unless you reship items to a buyer if they don't receive it, out of your own pocket, and you use signature confirmation for your own use.

One huge reason why stealth users should not use Signature Confirmation unless it's over $250 is if you use paypal shipping and your stealth address as your return address. My return address is unoccupied, which means if the buyer is not home to sign for it, and doesn't want to go to the post office, then it gets returned to sender.
What I'll do is put a piece of scotch tape over the label while it's printing so that the return address does not print on these high value ones(I have a template which shows where to place the tape to block the return address). If the buyer doesn't accept it, it gives me more time for them to contact the post office to go get it, so that it doesn't get sent back. Last thing I want is a $600 item being lost in mail.

I did not say what ebay felt, that was the way I do it to cover myself.
