Dead Mail / Sent to Mail Recovery Center

over 10 of packages each worth 40 bucks easily are dead mail, what happend? i am very confused!!!!!!!!!

dallasreed 04-06-2013 01:23 PM

Label or package may have been damaged or return address was bad. There is a number or address you can write to attempt to recover the mail, more info on postal website.

suspendedfoe 04-06-2013 01:32 PM

ok, well this is a stealth, i have never ever ran into such problem but to it happend to only certain item and i have no clue why it would happen to 11 of them?

dallasreed 04-06-2013 01:40 PM

If you can receive mail at the return address on the packages there is a good chance the postal service will mail that address a letter explaining the situation.

i have had a package get damaged and go to dead mail. Otherwise in the future i would make sure to have a return address on your labels you can receive mail at.

If you are doing foo foos i would probably just drop it.

Futuremogul888 04-06-2013 02:46 PM

Normally this happens because the item get separated from the package or the label is damaged to the point that they can not make out the shipping or return address. But this is clearly not your standard dead mail situation unless you used disappearing ink on the labels. I know no one likes to post what they are selling but if you can give us a general idea, it would help to figure out what caused the items to become dead mail.

zoneout 04-06-2013 09:31 PM

OP, how do you know they are dead mail? Something in the tracking?

suspendedfoe 04-06-2013 11:30 PM

I wonder how many others did a "6.7oz lotion" search?

4,700+ active listings :)

There is no way for any of us to know what happened? But I have found, that on many of my poly bags my labels and tape don't seem to be adhering very well on some of the batches of my bags.

There is also the disappearing ink theory proposed by Futuremogul ;)

Yes, I advise taping taping over at-least the name and address. I had one where it got wet or damp somehow and it caused the ink to run.

zoneout 04-07-2013 04:56 AM

Ya, but OP is saying he sees "dead Mail" inthe tracking so label isn't the problem. It could be that the truck that was carrying those packages exploded or something (hopefully not due to the "lotion") and everything got burnt.

GreenBean 04-07-2013 05:20 AM

@zoneout

OP should make more enquiries.

Martians may have hijacked a truck

Or those Cubans hijacked the truck, they just wanted to make a boat out of it.

BigCJ 04-07-2013 09:58 AM

try filling out a PS Form 1509. As the post office if it will help in covering the item.
They will search for the package.
They may open the packages to verify the contents though.

But its 11 bucks per form for you to fill out.

ITs liquid, or classified as liquid...forms to the container it is shipped in...could be a restricted item....maybe got opened by usps and got popped? I have had this happen with stuff

Sandy D 04-07-2013 11:00 AM

Exactly, if the box or package is scanned and liquid shows up they will take it off the sort line and inspect in most cases.

Pretty safe to say this is the correct answer because all liquids need special classification when being shipped as they need special handling. Without the knowledge that your package is liquid, it may spill out causing damage to other packages. Usually a "liquid" sticker is enough to prevent there being an issue when you are handing them in, in bulk. If you are taking it to a manned counter, they specifically ask you if there is anything Fragile, Liquid, Perishable, or Potentially Hazardous. When you don't make them aware of this they have a right to confiscate all packages sent in that lot for their protection and the protection of other's packages.

Unmarked liquid packages. You are a genius.

OP got popped.

Inherent danger of having incorrect info on a shipping label these days.

if you tape over a label the name and address may come off, i sell labels and this is common depending on thermal printer or ink used. basically dont do it

If it gets wet it might run. I always tape over everything. Have had very few problems.
