How long before you get new stock? I have had this happen and spoke to the buyer before stating due to some delivery issue, stock has been damaged etc. and would prefer providing best quality to you...that helped in my case.

But if your buyer is needing it right away, you might be best to refund and make sure to communicate well to avoid neg feedback

what rsot said is TRUE Communication is key... You will know once communicated with the buyer which path to take depending on the buyer response.

best of luck

Is it an item that is available retail.

This has happened to me a couple of times, because my supplier ran out of an item.

One option is to buy it at retail if available, ship it out, and take the loss.

Feel out the customer first and see if you can get them to wait until it is in stock.

Just an option.

Maybe not such a wise idea to put an idea into a buyer's mind.... be careful of that angle.

thats some deep thinking there, but the buyer seems okay, havent found anything strange on the name or email, ip , username , phone etc so if the buyer thinks to much or think wrong things i might make him think twice lol

@Univerzal

People are like snakes.

Can turn and attempt to do damage.

Always keep that in mind as you do business.

Yeah customers do expect to get the item no matter what. I've previously had to buy from competitors in order to fulfil sales.

Something slightly risker I've done was leave it until the customer contacts me (getting stock in meanwhile) and then blame the postal service and offer to send out a 'replacement' on the very same day.

Buying from other competitor can also yield decent profit if well done. The retail idea is possible but a loss would be incurred for the feedback. Think someone mentioned once about doing the retail substitution and then keeping the receipt to return the item when stock arrived.

OP is talking about being without an item to supply a buyer.

Your reply is rather off topic.

@GB, this was in reference to what AustionsDenied stated - getting the item at retail and shipping out. Then when stock comes in, can return with receipt - if time permits.

Not at all off topic - just options to consider

Hence the importance of quoting in reply to posts.

Having to quote a reply in posts is not always needed but duly noted .

Always judging - fair enough.

Reading the entire thread, the comment did not seem off topic.
