Buyer using phoney address - What to do
 

So I've listed some items and there's quite a lot of competition and I've come in at a much lower price. Someone has bought an item and sent a message straight away through ebay saying ''can you please send to this address ..... I put the wrong one in on ebay'' So I check the one on ebay and it is a phake address ( address edited out)

So obviously they weren't serious when making the account, it was only made 2 weeks ago, so i'm thinking they are selling the same item and made the account just for that. And i'm expecting negative feedback and a case opened. What do I do? Can I cancel the transaction without negative feedback? thanks

You are never in control over feedback.

Tell him to fix the address on Paypal and eBay and resend payment, tell them you can't change addresses since it's automatic on paypal.

Could be someone with a stealth account just trying to buy something?

There was an address there. It was not entirely 'nice' enough for open forum.

Well with that said, I would then agree with @SaiJin. Ask the buyer to fix his/her information on account through ebay messaging (this way you have proof of the request) and go forward from there.

A nice recorded message via the system to set the address in order would be useful....

As long as the change of address information is recorded in eBay, you should be good. If I was to buy an item using one of my Stealth address, that is exactly what I would do.

I had the the same with a buyer, with all the communication, the feedback was very good.

Would not be helpful if claim is ever made via Paypal though....

Paypal only allows coverage if seller ships to verified pp address not some other address (if OP wants to ship) - regardless of his UK flag

This should not even be a question in the future.

You ONLY ship to confirmed addresses.
If the buyer requests the item being shipped somewhere else, you tell them to confirm that address in the paypal account and that you will only ship there.

You take screencaps of not only the seller protection text, but the before AND after address changes and SAVE EVERY LAST EMAIL that the buyer has sent to you.

They have a problem with this, send a refund and cancellation request.
They refuse or leave negative feedback, open a case against you, well you have ammunition for ebay and paypal to protect yourself.

Send anything to addresses that are not covered by eBay/Paypal seller protection. % of those requests that are fraud is much too high to risk getting ripped off.

I do this all the time. For me it's legit. If not expensive item I don't think I would worry.

Because its super easy to scam a seller out of their money.
A confirmed address is one form of 'proof' that paypal deems acceptable to try and win a case against a person why claimed they never received their item.

Saying 'But the buyer asked me to ship to....' Will not fly.

The confirmed address is their 'black, white and green' evidence to help protect yourself from pro scammers.

How does a confirmed address help you win a case? You are not required to ship to a confirmed address to win a case. If buyer uses ebay checkout you can ship to the address in order details if not you can use an address given in ebay messages given by buyer. If buyer pays direct with paypal you can ship to a confirmed or unconfirmed address as long as that is the address they used when they sent payment, basically the address in transaction details in paypal. You are never required to ship to a confirmed address. That is a wive's tale.

The cases that I have won, the addresses have been confirmed.

Why do you think bigger sellers will only ship to confirmed addresses that are on file with paypal? This is part of paypals proof process in case the buyer tries something snide.

No one wants to see partial protection when selling something (if its unconfirmed, that's what you get most of the time)

And notice what I said: To TRY to win a case. Paypal is looking for ANY excuse not to pay out of their pockets.
