BIN vs Auctions

a few ebay?s

1) I cant find success with BIN. It seems people come in on auctions and purchase at the last minute and buy my items. I can list items for substantially less on BIN and they never sell. Any suggestions. The down side is I have to list a lot of auctions to sell and when my free listings run out, it starts to get pricey

2) is there a day or time thats best to have auctions end? when are the most people on ebay?

Is there any chance that the BIN price is higher than average selling price on eBay so it doesn't sell.

Auction price starts low so it attracts buyers to come.

I put a link in the auctions page to drive traffic to the same/ similar BIN item.

My auctions are all 'free advertisements'.

I like BIN but you need to under cut your competition by a few cents, I guess it depends on the item but on my aged accounts I run all BIN I have the best prices and 100% in my accounts , I do a 3 day BIN and all my listings come in first few spots and I sell couple thousand a day and best part you can choose where they need to pay right away which I like, if. It's a less popular item than yes auction works best or new accounts I rub auction

eBayers are idiots sometimes.

I have lots of items that I have on BIN and auctions both running on the same account at the same time for the same item

the BIN is £9.99, yet for the exact same item the auction can hit £26.09 (record at the moment for that item)

Another I had for £2.99 and got an auction sale price of just over £15

Put it down to people getting bidding fever.

Its not so much the number of people online that matters, more the number of people online that are interested in what your selling.

Very high end items I often have ending at 6am or 11pm

You have to tailor when your item ends to the market your trying to reach. Looking at TV scheduled is also recommended.

Trial and error is the best way to learn about when the best time to end an item is.

You can also use services like terapeak

Always tricky to predict. Funnily enough, vogeltron ( a user here) said the other day he ends his listings on a Friday night. That is because it is pay day for some.

Check sellers in your category. Get an idea of their listings. Tweak your own listings to match theirs.

Keep in mind when the BIN ends. Dont allow yourself to be caught with postal delays!!!

And consider using terapeak as JamesNorth suggested.

It is helpful.

Good Luck

If no success with BIN, keep it simple with auction. If you keep selling with BIN, make sure to have the buyer payment pay now selection chosen.

Buy it now is a success from October to January. Cut the price by almost $10-15 from competitors and sales jump left to right. It is true that people love to bid. Some people just don't like saving time.

I am BIN but do auctions now and then on another account and yes -people seem to be as thick as - even if I start auction at same price as BIN -they still bid it up??
Anyway -Tuesday mornings are when I sell the most -every week -not that I sell a lot -but I find that a bit random too.

Of course people will bid it up...sometimes foolishly PAST BIN...lot of people like the thrill of winning an auction hah - even if they overpay - "Mommy I won the item for 100$" - "But we could drive 10 miles and get it for 50$" - "Don't matter, I WON! Gold medal for me!"

I always use buy it now on just about all my listings. I find that 30 day BIN work pretty well. This also depends on what kind of items you are selling. If you are selling multiple quantities of a new item then it can take some time for your item to get popular. Once you get that popularity then they will start selling more frequently. If you are selling used hard to find items then no need to worry. Some used items will take a day to sell and some take 3 weeks. Start your BIN low if you are selling multiple quantity. Then slowly increase your price. Your item will build a good selling history and be placed higher in the best match results. %80 of buyers will not change the search criteria, so that means %80 of people are only seeing best match. Not ending soonest etc. Play around with it until you find that sweet spot.

best of luck to you
Dave

I've noticed that sellers with very high feedback, high selling limits, and an eBay store benefit more from BIN. They have LOADS of listings ending every day, majority of their listings fail. However, for every 10 listings that fail, they have 4 of them that make up for the lost fees from the failures.
