How to use IMAP with Evolution
I have received a message from a member and thought I'd share my answer. I tried to explain how to set up Google's IMAP with Evolution.
Hello,
I have never used evolution, but I will try to help you.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to deactivate your POP account in evolution first. - Login to your gmail account, click on settings and select 'Forwarding and POP'
- Check the 'Enable IMAP' radio button
- Open Evolution and a new mail-account (idenitity) using your name, gmail address
- Server Type is 'IMAP', Server: imap.gmail.com:993
- Enter your full gmail address as the username, security protocol is 'SSL' and the authentication type is 'Password'
- Now switch to sending e-mail: Server-Type: 'SMTP'; Server: smtp.gmail.com:587
- Check 'Server Requires Authentication'; Security is 'TLS', Authentication type: Login, username = full gmail address
Restart evolution now and the next time you click on 'send/receive' you should see gmails IMAP folders on the left. Now you can move all your exisitng e-mail you have already downloaded through POP back to the IMAP server (just mark all messages and move them over to the IMAP folder 'Inobx').
Again, do not do this step before you have deactivated the POP account, otherwise it will immediately start downloading the uploaded messages again through POP.
I hope I could help, let me know if you have any other question. Quote:
