Default Received negative feedback on new account HELP

I know most of you will start this off with the mindset of, "Here we go, another newbie with bad business practices about to waste forum space complaining about negative feedback."

BUT here me out!

My item was brand new, 100% authentic. I do not even mind disclosing what the item was. It was a Sony voice recorder I got as a gift (bought to use in school), but I really did not see myself using it, so I sold it figuring it would be a good item to take up a listing on one of my stealth accounts.

The item was BRAND NEW. Factory sealed!

I sell it and get a message from the buyer saying that the factory seal was only on one side of the product, not the other. Also, he complained that there was a thumb print on the INSIDE of the factory seal sticker (just a tiny, clear sticker, typical of what you would find on most new items). This got him angry because it indicated someone had peeled back the sticker, therefore indicating that it was at one point NOT factory sealed and therefore NOT brand new.

So I go to a retail store to look at the item. Turns out the factory seal sticker is SUPPOSED to be on one side only -- that's how they all are brand new at the retail store!

I told the guy no problem. I tried to be professional, understanding, and told him to return the item for a full refund. I gave him a prompt 100% refund as soon as I got the package.

I received the item in the mail and tried to find the finger print he was talking about. The factory seal was still on it, exactly as it should be. As for the thumb print, I couldn't really see a damn thing. Maybe some dust on the sticky side of the factory seal, indicating the sticker was not always perfectly pressed to the item.

And now this guy left me negative feedback! I mean DAMN! So I got up to 7 feedback on this account and now I got this negative feedback and am down to 87.5% feedback rating. So is this account worth keeping? Should I just keep on moving on this account? How will the 87.5% affect my sales?

Did I do something wrong? I mean I feel this was out of my hands... I really received the item brand new and, looking at it, I would never think to list it as anything else but brand new...

Very angry right now!

I once sold a vintage Amiga computer, in full working order... The buyer emails me a week later to say he had taken it to pieces to modify it, put it back together and now it doesnt work so could he return it... I say no and he opens a dispute, he returns the computer and its in pieces in a box without any packaging, he hadnt even put it back together and it was totally destroyed. I tell eBay the situation, show them photo evidence and they refund him. They let someone take an electrical item to pieces, modify it, brake it and return it in a state.

My point is... Get used to it, its better you get used to these situations early on before your nice 24 inch monitor turns into a broken 24 inch monitor with a mouse sticking out of the screen.

If you ever get shafted, just remember that theres another good seller out there who has been shafted twice as hard!

Just sounds like a trouble seller tbh. Try explaining to him that the neg damages your account a lot and you tried to help as much as you could, also offer to refund his return postage costs. You can then ask him to retract the feedback.

The account is far from lost, just need to make sure that you get some generic reasonably cheap items up for sale to build the feedback up again. I would still get started on some stealths though

Get to some garage sales... Spend $100 and stick the lot on eBay with a 99c start... Build your feedback up and have some fun making a bit of money!

Thanks for the input guys! Helped lift my morale a bit. I'll contact the buyer, though he has seemed very unreasonable throughout this whole process!

Get used to it. This won't be the last moronic buyer you run into. You can get them just as much when selling used .99 items as well. You can carry on with the account until you are unlucky enough to get the dreaded moron troica which means 3 morons within a short span of about a week or two. That happens and you're cooked.

Just wait till you get 2 morons in quick succession then eBay will have you losing sleep cause bad things come in threes and that last moron is right around the corner. Best to use a different account at that point and let the morons age off the other account.

It's going to happen now or later, don't count the account as lost- just put something on it each month so that in 3, 6, or whatever months it is that the feedback shows 100% again, and then be more agressive. It's just a good reminder on how you should always have a few rolling slowly forward so you can switch to them while you wait out a problem sale or temporary limits or other issues.

Is this a stealth account or your personal one?

I have an account where usps delayed a first class package and it took 9 days to get to buyer. Buyer promptly left me a neg saying it took too long.

I responded with the truth and asked nicely to remove the neg. the account is now at 50%.

So I listed some movies I bought at Walmart and 2 of them are selling well.

A similar thing happened to me...Brand new stealth account, 4 feedback and UK Mail didn't collect my parcel on the allocated day. It was delivered a day late and I received negative feedback. I asked the buyer why he left it and he basically blackmailed me into sending him some accessories for the item he ordered in order for him to revise the feedback. I ended up just sending them to him, he wasn't asking for much, it put me about £7 out of pocket but made sure I had 100% feedback instead of 80%...There are some ***** on ebay.

When a buyer shafts you request their info off eBay then make craigslist ads in their city with their email and phone #. Put something like brand new LG washer and dryer for free, get the pics off google images, they will absolutely love that...don't forget to rinse and repeat.

Make sure you reply to his feedback so anyone looking will see that you refunded.
