Buyers' info hidden
 

In eBay when you searched on a member's selling history, you would always be able to see the full names of the buyers (unless it was a private listing).

Even when an item is sold, all bids from buyers who didn't win would be surrounded by ***'s. Now, even the winning buyer has ***'s.

Any thoughts or ideas on why eBay would choose to all of a sudden make this hidden?

It was probably due to solicitation of members by sellers and even other buyers.

But it annoys me even more because ebay not only hides the winning bidders, but also scrambles the names. Only the feedback stays the same.

I'm in a niche market where everyone knows each other and I can tell who the buyer is by their feedback score and their scrambled name always stays the same version of scrambled if you know what I mean. Privacy reasons, to protect buyer I believe, but I'm quite unsure really? Cannot be bothered calling eBay or messaging them and asking them why this is so.

Exactly - block business outside of eB, going around fees and second chance offers

Changed started last October-ish.

Much to do with their infamous search Cassini I suspect.

Ha ha LilyPily keep smoking that good stuff if you think you will get an answer. If you did it would state that it's for the good of the community and keeping it all safe.

I quite like this as I buy stuff on EB and flip it fr resale onto other platforms. I have a number of buying accounts which I switch between but I dont want others to know who "I" am.

The amusing thing is that I once caught a discussion on a niche forum speculating who some of these ** IDs were and one mentioned was mine. For some reason the poster appeared to think I was in Spain or Portugal.

I do have Spanish and Portuguese addresses I use which are in Ebay and my PP account. One is a mailbox and the other a family holiday property. I use them for importing certain items to SELL on EB but it was quite amusing that competitors thought I was foreign.

Took a couple of minutes to realize why it was familiar.

This is just so messed up and opens the door for a lot of mistakes when trying to find a particular sale. I can sell the same item on the same day for the same amount. Just more BS every day I guess. Trying to remain grateful to have a venue to sell on.
