Default What do you do with eBayer who try to low ball you?

It seems like from Feb to June every year. The eBayer I deal with changes. Always get more scams, complaints, etc this time of year than the rest.

To get to the point. I am so sick of having fixed priced items listed. Most my items are relatively rare or in a sense there isn't a ton of competition for the exact item. On eBay there is about anywhere from 5-6 similar items listed. I am just so tired of being the seller with the lowest priced item. Then getting a message from a buyer will you sell me this item for XXX. Lets say a $55 free ship item I will get asked to sell it for $40. I don't have any best offer feature. To me it is a slap in the face, after fees etc it basically running a charity and giving stuff away for free.

Normally I don't respond and just ad them to my block list. I have learned over the years acknowledging these people or engaging them just leads to more problems. Also in my experience it is always the person you try to help out and give the deal to is always the person who somehow ends up complaining the most and becomes your biggest headache. Had this happen to many times in the past.

I really want to say "Can't match good luck finding elsewhere" but I don't want to engage the buyer even if I block them.

Anyone deal with similar issues?

I don't take it personal, I don't answer & I block them because they are always problematic buyers.

Too often for my liking.

I do have Best Offer on nearly all my listings, and still get people messaging asking if I will accept X or Y offer. One particular item that I sell for £15 really often attracts stupid offers of £4 or £5.

And yes, I totally agree that the buyer that you sometimes give a good deal to nearly always turn out to be the biggest pains. They seem to have a mindset of wanting something for really really cheap and then expected it to be delivered by plane with champagne and truffles.

Block and move on, simple.

Not long ago I was selling a widget for £15 plus £2.60 postage. I received a message sayin

"i really really want this item but only if you can reduce the p&p by 60pence, many thanks"

Unbelievable.

I let them know they can have whatever they would like, and want when

Hell freezes over.

Block, block, block.

Oh, I love blocking.

Actually you should be glad these members make themselves know as problematic. Now all you have to do is block them one by one.

I dont block low ballers. I read the message and just press the delete button. Too much of my time is wasted in finding the blocking list. I press delete and go back to playing video games when ebay work is done.

Not answering buyers questions will this count against your seller dashboard or something.

Hardly think so, I've ignored a ton of questions and my Communications is 5.0 out 5.0. The only ones that matter are the questions of those who have already purchased from you.

I have 2 versions: One short the other long.

The short version:

You low ball me, you get blocked. I wont respond to your insults of what YOU want to pay, and if im really in a mood, Ill request your info to just master block your address.

The long version:

Those moronic buyers are dealing with EBAY. Not a medicine company, Not their mortgage/landlord.

This is a luxury shopping site for most of us.

These people do not need to purchase from us. I tend to get very POed when someone uses excuses like military, cancer or the like.

DO NOT GET ME WRONG! I feel for these people and i have gone out of my way to help those who are ill and who serve us and I will gladly ship to our men and women serving us or who have returned. But there are WAY too many people who jump on that bandwagon looking for work arounds.

I had a woman who was purchasing something. A rare antique I had for sale for $199 with $14 shipping and conformation. It was a firm sale. Id rather keep it if it didnt sell.

Various questions came in about condition, Authenticity, location and such...Understandable...She seemed nice and knowledgeable about it.

She then asked why it had no 'offer' button.
I explained why.

She then asked why shipping wasnt free.
I again explained why...

Why do I need signature conformation...
Seriously?

I blocked her but forgot the click the 'do not receive email blah blah'

she sends messages about reporting me, then that she is on disability and her rent must be paid by the 15th and $100 should be 'more than enough' to satisfy 'my greed'

Im sorry, I wasnt very professional when I told her to get her '****' in gear and prioritize as she stayed away from my auctions.

She had a history of mass bidding/BINs, not paying/low balling and leaving auctions tied up. Had around 57 feedback if I remember...

Burns me up to this day..

Some people seem to think that we run eBay businesses as a charitable hobby.

@BigCJ that is a harsh story there. I can't tell you how many times I have gotten a message with someone's life story at the end to want to low ball my price. It is usually well over half of what it is listed for and would be losing quite a bit of money on.

I understand lots of people have different struggles they deal with in life. But never in the world would most these people walk into a retail store bring and item up to the counter and say I will give you half. But somehow on the internet they think it is ok.

I have to imagine the success rate of these practices isn't very good. But who knows.

And to the point below by JamesNorth.

I have learned both in ebay business and in my in store business that when you give people some leverage... they'll try and chop off your whole arm.

Those same buyers would never ask those with the higher priced items for a cent off. They won't even attempt in negotiating.

For you on the other hand. You probably have tremendous DSR & Feedback. They see you have a competitive price, thus they probably think you're desperate, or they're cheap/smart. Some people won't buy ANYTHING without negotiating.

I frankly think it's disrespectful to try and get $5 off an item being offered to you at $190 that was bought down from $250. IMO.. thats a slap in the face.
