Raise BIN when you are about to reach selling limit?

I noticed a couple of days ago my main competitor raised his BIN price from around $20 to $100, which immediately boosted my listing to the number one result for my niche. Which got me thinking, is there a benefit to leaving an auction running non-stop even if the price is to high for anyone to buy it?

In other words, as I am about to reach the selling limit on my account for the month, should I do what my competitor did and raise my price so the auction doesn't end? There must be something I'm missing here...

You find listings that are sometimes an outrageous price so that the listing stays up and you will usually stay in or near the same spot, if you end the listing and start over you could be pushed to the back pages

Besides reaching your selling limits, sometimes if you are low on inventory rather than pull the listing you will see increased prices as well

Hello, yes a lot of people do this. also sellers do it when they are out of stock and dont want to end the listing so they put the price up and when they get stock in they put the price back to the original price.

I had never thought of this, but this is a great idea, especially when you have your item listed as GTC. You do not lose your view count, watchers, sales history, etc.

Good idea to keep this listing going - at least until competitors take you down (if you arent smart :FF:)

Re: Raise BIN when you are about to reach selling limit?

Just to follow up in case anybody was still interested in this topic: I raised my BIN price dramatically on the 19th when I was about to hit my selling limit. My listing obviously hasn't made any sales since then, but is still ranked in the top 3 search results for my given niche which typically has about 200 listings active any given time. I am way excited about being able to keep my ranking, sales data, watchers etc. way cool, I encourage everyone to try this out if they aren't doing so already! :)

haha, I had something similar just happen. Though I have one left so I'm not complaining.

Thanks for bringing this up fastfire667 - this practice totally saved a few of my GTC listings this month.

Re: Raise BIN when you are about to reach selling limit?

I sell lots of clothing. Certain styles, sizes etc do much better than others.

Whenever I am selling too much of one size, style etc. I almost always raise the price. So I get compensated for having to open new cases of items etc.

As far as stealth accounts go. If you only have so much you can sell. Might as well jack up the prices when you get close. Tends to be what I do on all my Stealth accounts when I have low qty of an item and I am getting close to the PP threshold for the year. If you want this you gotta pony up because I only have so many sales left...
