About business license.

Hi I am wondering if My sales go up to 30,000 and over 1000 items sold on each month. Should I apply a company for tax return? Or I can just keep selling as personal? I also have a full time job. I live in Los Angeles. Need suggestion. Thanks.

I would look for a tax consultant/professional financial advisor rather than just seeking the advice on this forum

If you are doing that amount of sales I would imagine you need to get your business legit regardles of whatever country you live in otherwise you will get chased by the tax people. Get a qualified accountant on your side asap.

Most cities you are suppose to have a business license. But if it is eBay lots of people do so without one. If you live inside the City of Los Angeles you can probably find out on the website. Its usually like $20-100 for a pc of paper it is nothing special. There are some cities/counties and unincorporated areas in California where you don't need a business license or they don't even offer them.

What you need to make sure though is that you are registered with the State Board of Equalization. So that you can collect and report California sales Tax for all sales within the state.

If you have that in order you can run it as an Individual (Sole Proprietor). The nice thing about California is if you go to register for a bank account in the state. As long as you Last Name is part of the Company Name you do not need to file a DBA with the county clerk and put it in the paper for 6-8 weeks or whatever it is.

That is a basic overview. Like everyone I would still advise speaking to an accountant.
