over paying for shipping!

Need some advice here. I purchased an item on EB and was charged 11.25 for priority shipping. When the package arrives, it weighed 6oz and was shipped 1st class mail, costing him $2.25 in shipping. Now, how would yall go about tallking to this guy or should I open a case. If opening a case, what would it be since the shipping was mis-stated?

Just ask the guy to refund the difference if that is what you want. No need to open a case.

Generally if I am happy with the overall price I paid for an item I am not too bothered if the sellers over charging postage.

If they had charged less postage the item price would have been higher and the overall price would be the same.

I totally agree, but the principle is bothering me here more than the $9.00 too much he charged.

I have to agree its more about principal really.
We get rubbish low stars for shipping all the time, and i only charge what the post office does.

He should have pro-actively refunded you the over charge

This is my real account, so I called eBay to see what they said my recourse would be if he was not willing to communicate. To my surprise, they said this would be "An Item Not As Described" case. I messaged the guy requesting that he remedies the issue or I will be opening a case tonight, as politely as I could. So we shall see how this plays out.

Charging $11.25 when it cost $2.25 personally is abuse, If he would of charged maybe $4.00 or $5.00 it wouldn't bother me but a $9 increase...yeah that's not cool.

So, I just got a reply back saying that he saw his mistake and is refunding my over charge. I told him thank you, left him pos fb, and 5 star DSRs.

Good to hear its all sorted without a case :thumb:

It used to be that sellers would overcharge on postage to save eBay FV fees, but now with fees being charged on postage it is a bit pointless. 95% of my auctions have free domestic shipping options now.

Yup, use to be common practice.

Usually if the overall price is decent like another person said I don't care. As a seller you have to get a out the door price to cover all costs. However, overcharging shipping by that much is quite ridiculous. I would be more inclined to just leave them a 1 DSR for shipping cost.

Not proper on the seller side - email him and communicate freely - first step
