Problem: Sent item to buyer's eBay address instead of PayPal address
 

I had a buyer who had an old address listed on his eBay account (the correct address was on his PayPal account). I have foolishly sent $200 worth of merchandise to the old address (with tracking).

The buyer is saying that this is my fault (which it is because I should have confirmed the correct address).

Who is liable in this situation and what is the best course of action?

The buyer could be scamming me, he contacted me a day after the tracking confirmed the items as 'delivered'.

Am I going to have to refund or resend the items or is there another way around this?

You are liable, and it is your fault unfortunately.

Always send to the address given upon payment.

Maybe worth getting in touch with the current occupants of the house, and see if they will make the items available for collection.

At best your going to be out a few shipping charges. At worth 200$.

Apologise profusely to the buyer, and replace the order if you can asap.

That may just avoid negative feedback and low stars (if your communication so far hasn't already warranted it)

It feels like the buyer did this on purpose, since he could have contacted you to tell you which address to send it to, if he knew his address's were different.

However maybe in future write in your listings ' items will be sent to address on ebay' since you are using a payment gateway other than ebay.

As I suspected there is no way around this so I am resending the merchandise and hoping for the best in regards to feedback. I have a nagging suspicion that the buyer is an opportunistic scammer and that they have both sets on items! Thanks for your input everyone.
