Does eBay assign account names now???
 

I have noticed some account names that seem very strange to me - like nobody would pick these names as a username, except maybe a computer. An example is:

cah.us.xfidj0bl (not a real user-id)

These seem to be newer accounts. Is eBay forcing users to use some sort of a new naming system? I have not created any accounts in the last 90 days (and I have not lost any, thankfully), so maybe I am behind the curve???

Yeah, They are randomly selected now but you have the option to change them once you're signed up.

Terrible idea.

I dont know why they decided to implement this..
After all it is not that hard to choose a user name for yourself when you sign up for the first time.

But to have someone stuck with a ID like yours above is going to be a headache for some, especially since most new people signing up know that you can change your username.

You only get assigned an ID if you choose to open a personal account, if you open a business account I haven't been assigned one I choose my own username

They do assign names to personal acounts now, but you always have the option to change it. It is not fixed.

They have been doing this for a couple months now.

Odd ball and crazy names almost always.
