This is such a silly question and im sure theres a simple answer ive missed...but....

How do you buy a 'buy it now' item without paying?

say if i needed to pay tomorrow but wanted to reserve it tonight as there is only one in stock. I went all the way to the payment page but the item doesn't show as sold and i obviously didn't go any further as I didnt want to pay right away.

I know it can be done as I have many people do it to me.

Basically some sellers set items so you have to pay immediately, no reserve. When you press buy, it should say on top something like, make sure to pay or someone else might buy it or something....

Most buyers now require immediate payment

I use it on all my BIN items.

You can't, the majority of sellers want you to complete the full checkout - if you click BIN and don't checkout the item won't show as sold on their side.

I also use it on all my listings, saves the hassle of chasing payments from time wasters - theres a growing lot of them around.

Some are usually good, they buy, the pay a day or two later. Most buy and make trash excuses about why they cant pay (i.e. the bank coincidentally froze their account)... hmmm

Say for example is was not set to pay immediately...

At what point is it classed as sold?

It would tell you right away, congratulations on your purchase... "pay now" option will appear which you can divert away from.

OR

You will be forced to checkout completely.

Once you have clicked Buy it now - it won't automatically take you through to pay - if its set to pay immediately you will need to complete checkout process.
