Google Voice, porting and reverse lookup

If I port a prepaid number to GV, will a reverse lookup continue to show the original carrier or will it eventually show google?

I ported my own landline number from AT&T to GV more than six months ago, and just ran a reverse lookup on that number to check... as of today, it still is reported as a landline number.

My thought is that if it were going to change it would have by now.

Does anyone know differently?

Phone numbers are tagged to original carriers for at least six month to avoid lawsuits complications.

Just like when you give up a phone number, the company will not issue is for 6 months.

Your ported number will eventually show as GV.

So can I check phone's number is GV or other services? How can I do that?

In that case, with regard to ebay/paypal, I wonder what the likelihood would be for it to be an issue down the road, once the account has had a chance to age a bit.

Set up account with ppd number and then port to GV 6 or 7 weeks later to keep the number alive but not have to mess with ongoing ppd expenses.

Thoughts?

Once you pass the initial MC999 and your account stays alive for 3 months, the GV issues are almost history. You may never get into issues unless if you use shortcuts to get your money.

You can't specifically check if it's from Google Voice, but you can pretty easily tell if a number is GV, VOIP, or something similar by doing a reverse phone lookup. This is available for free on the Whitepages website. You just type in the phone number you're trying to research, and it will tell whether or not its a landline and which carrier or company the number belongs to. If it says "Bandwidth.com" as the carrier then it's GV/VOIP/a texting app most likely.

Easily searchable by eb/pp agents but the comment by GoteBay about 3 months makes sense logically
