Buyers "forgetting" to return item thats already been refunded. What can I do?
 

Long story short, a buyer requested a return because they received the wrong size. The seller refunded the buyer, plus included return shipping money. It's been one month and after two or three messages saying they forgot to mail it, they'll do it tomorrow. The seller is fed up with excuses. The seller feels like they're trying to keep the item with the money. Is there anything a seller can do in this situation? eBay and PayPal wont seem to listen.

Technically you gave them a present! They don't have to return it if they don't want to. You should always wait until you receive your item to make sure for...

1) they send it
2) you don't get a empty box
3) its not damaged or abused in anyway...

If its stealth and its your stealth address I see why you may have sent a refund before they sent it back but technically they don't have to ship it back. All about morality at this point, and it sounds like they won't.

Not much you can do about it.
Try to be more careful in the future and that's about it. Learn from the experience.

It is all in the game of Ebay. I had this happen to me many times. Buyers sending back a box of rocks for a refund. As soon as Ebay sees it had been delivered back to me via tracking they shoot the buyer a refund automatically. Not much you can do except try and plead with Ebay to get your funds. It worked a few times for me.

It amazes me that Ebay listens to a buyer with 0 feedback over a seller of over 10+ years and thousands of transations. Ebay supports sellers my arse.

Lesson learned. Im going to send them ample emails throwing their user details around in a non-invasive manner ;)

Just wondering, why did you refund him before getting the item back though?

No incentive to return the item if you have already refunded them.

If you plan to refund them anyway I would suggest asking them to send you a photo of the damage or incorrect item/size. That way you can at least rule out being defrauded.
Then submit a refund after they send you tracking.
That's what I do, though usually if they submit a photo I don't have them return a damaged item.

The buyers can send a empty box back to a completely different address in the same zip code and get a refund from eBay. Ebays motto is the buyers always right!

SWIM should have contacted the buyer by phone as well much earlier.

Ignored emails need that personal touch of talking 'cos SWIM is such a caring seller.

( and there might be an oops moment where the contact info is not valid :eek: Nudge nudge ;))

SWIM must understand every avenue needs to be used to maintain account control.
