Question for US sellers

Again im sorry, i cant seem to find shipping part of forum.
This is a question for US shippers or anyone who is familiar with it.

Im from UK and have purchased a second hand hoody from the US. I have obviously paid for the hoody and the associated postage.

Unluckily its been opened at customs and now it has arrived in the UK. They wontblet mebhave parcel without paying the customs charges and handling charge which comes to £20.00.
I know that i as a buyer am responsible but the contents are just not worth the extra 20 quid so i have the option of refusing to pay and after 18 days, goes back to sender.

Seller is happy for me to do this.

My question is whether on return back to sender....will they foot the customs bill that i refused. Was hoping you guys might know. My local sorting office hasnt got a clue and neither does the seller.
Its just if that is the case, il pay because i dobt want the seller to foot the bill as its not fair on them.
But if they dont foot the bill, then will let it go.
What ive already paid, plus postage is in no worth an extra 20 quid. The hoody is second hand and not even a brand.

HMRC are not obliged apparantly to let me kbow if i.can claim it back off them until i give them a code. The code is on the ruddy parcel so have to pay to get it.

Thanks if anyone is familiar with this :-)

Re: Question for US sellers

If it is USPS it will take a month or two to come back, but no fees.

UPS or Fedex can charge another fee for returned goods. It can be COD or billed.

Hi yankee
Its click n ship - usps.com.

Its a.charitable.organisation in america that i support by buying.clothing. Have spent a lot of money with this charity and never had this problem.

Just got unlucky this time.

There is no way im letting them foot the bill. That would be terrible of me and not the kind of person i am, which is why i wanted to ask as the 18 days are creeping up and need to know whether to collect it and pay or not :-)
But thankyou for putting my mind and rest now.
The charity have offered to resend it back to me at no charge when it arrives back but id rather they just keep it and resell it.

Does this happen a lot in customs. This is the firat time ive experienced this?

UK always has VAT/DUTY, even on gift shipments. Sometimes first class mail items go through.

Thanks yankee. Il let them get sent back. I guess if by some horrible freak of nature they do get charged, il just send the money. So disheartening this happenned but never mind.
Thanks for your help yankee. Much appreciated :-)

Re: Question for US sellers

in the future, see if they can gift it, very low value, used and first class mail.

Should be a very low tax/vat or go right past the tax depot altogether.
