got the message from eBay today...
Dear XXXXX,
In November 2006, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) applied for and received a Federal Court Order requiring eBay Canada to release account information and sales data of Canadian PowerSellers for the 2004 and 2005 years. Our records show that you are among this group.
eBay Canada takes user privacy very seriously and has vigorously contested this Order in the Canadian courts for the past two years. Unfortunately, on November 7, 2008, the Federal Court of Appeal ruled in favour of the CRA, denying eBay Canada's request to maintain the privacy of its PowerSellers' account information and sales data. Consequently, eBay Canada has been ordered to release this information to the CRA.
Information that will be released for 2004 and 2005 PowerSellers includes: Full name, user ID, mailing address, billing address, telephone number, fax number, email address, and the selling prices (high bids) of the items.
We appreciate that this matter is of concern to our members. While eBay strenuously objects to these requests made by the CRA, we are obliged to comply with the legal ruling.
Please note that the CRA has indicated to us that they will seek court orders for PowerSeller information for subsequent years. Given their intentions, we would like to remind sellers once again that they are responsible for ensuring that they are in compliance with all laws and regulations relating to their activities online. A change in PowerSeller status at this time will not alter our information disclosure requirements.
