If Buyer Opens A "Request", Does Paypal Pull Funds?

I have not had any disputes or "requests" opened in quite a while...knock on wood. So I am wondering with the way ebay is set up now, if a buyer opens a "request", does Paypal pull the funds like previously when one would open a case? I know you must open a request first, then if the issue isn't resolved you escalate it to ebay within a certain number of days. But are the funds placed on lock down once the request is opened? Seems like the "request" is the same as opening a case?

Good to know if anything should happen in the future.

I know for certain because a buyer opened a case yesterday.morning for INR and the funds were taken and then two hours later she closed the case because it came in the post and got the funds back.
Luckily one thing i learnt on this forum from the beginning, is to always leave funds in just incase this happenned. Would have been dreadful if it put me in the minus :-)

They do not always automatically hold funds.

They tend to not do it for older more established accounts (although this may be different in the US?)

Jamesnorth is correct. I have found it to be hit and miss.

Didnt know that. Presumed they held them everytime.

Strange. I know that before when it was just buyers opening cases for SNAD or INR, Paypal held the funds immediately.

Same in the US. Seems like older, more established, more trusted accounts do not always get the funds put on hold. But, there are still times that they will put the hold on.
