What to sell for the first listing of my new ebay account

Some of the new accounts has $500 or $1000 selling limits for ebay.I just want to ask what did you list to have a limit higher than $1000.Some said they have $2500 or $5000 for their new accounts. What specific item did you list as your first listing.thanks.

Myself, on new.accounts its best to start off low.value, low risk. I started off with used clothing to begin with and introduced slowly my own line a little later.

I dont.think there is any correlation between what you list and what limits you get.
Its pretty random and automatic.
Selling feedback, good dsrs etc... all leads to increases of some kind.
Its all about earning trust in the beginning :-)

I like to sell collectable cards. I would consider them low risk and they're a great money maker. I started my stealth account selling collectable cards valued between $1-10 and now, after a couple months, I'm listing $10-40 cards/lots. This is just one method though.

Low risk items are definately the way forward with the items you list at the beginning of your account history, there are plenty of things that can be picked up in local stores, maybe in your case dollar stores where you can find items you may be able to buy cheaply and sell on for a small profit. In the first month or so of operating an account you want to be concentrating on building good feedback and dsr ratings which all look good to eBay and to buyers.

books are great low risk items

Weight of these items can be important as well, if they weigh too much then you can end up losing out in postage costs and buying enough packaging so that's they arrive in perfect condition

I always like to list a book as my first item

Do you actually ever SELL the book that you list? I've listed maybe 15 books total in the past couple years and not one sold.

That's the thing with books, unless they are something really really special, they just don't sell!

Yeah I've never had a problem selling a book, I really don't care about the profit or loss on the sale so I usually will let it go for a $1 if need be. I just start it off at 1 penny and let it sell at whatever it bids up to.

You start it with .01 and free ship? I listed all the books with BIN for like $1.99 at one point just to get the pos feedback. I have tons of unused books. I'll try them out again.

Thats one of the reasons i didnt go with books to begin with.
The idea of starting out to get some selling feedback with something i couldnt sell, seemed.pointless to me.
However, maybe others do have luck with.books.
Mind you, i did sell the 50 shades box set on an.old account. Good price too lol

Yeah .01 & free ship, I could care less what it sells for so I never had a problem selling any of them. If anything you'll atleast attract other book sellers who will buy it and try to resell themselves for profit.

123 Are you selling books at .01 with free shipping as your very first item on a brand new account?

I usually buy 2-3 cheap things and get buyer fb before listing, and then list the book

123 What about old used CD's?

Would old used CD's be ok with a .01 starting price with free shipping on a brand new account?

Or would you say that would be a big NO NO because its electronics?

I am not like any of you. I sell items that are profitable to me. My situation may be different but I don't sell things that do not make me money. With that being said my items I usually start off with I list as used even if they are not and my category is almost always considered non risk to ebay.

Im with you on that.
Used clothing i started with and though sales werent through the roof, they were still good prices. But they were low risk so had no probs.
£/$ stores fine, but ive said in many threads that the downside of this is that you shouldnt list as new on a new account.
Many clothes i sold were new and stated so in item.description but in main title and item.specifics i put used
