I got a return.Does this count as a defect?.

When I shipped it out the es was good. It went bad before it reached the buyer i guess.

Return said : Return in progress . Because the buyer told us that the item was not as described, you are responsible to pay for return shipping charges.

Does this go against me?. It hasnt seem to hit my seller rating (yet)

I just hate how returns hurt your standing with ebay now and when you close the return you dont even receive reimbursement for the final value fee even after doing a cancel transaction request afterwards.

Before returns even existed almost all of my buyers on ebay that were not happy with there purchase would not open a case against me they would just send me a massage and i would fix the problem.

Im assuming buyers thought opening cases against sellers was to harsh but now they think that opening returns are a lot less offensive to a seller when there the same exact thing but with a different name.

Returns are a great way to harm your account, be out the cost in selling fees, and then lose money for paying for return shipping to receive the item back or being out money to offer a partial refund.

THANKS ebay for making it probably the worst way possible now for sellers!!!

If it's not as described than its a defect, but I had a return that didn't count as a defects, I'm not sure what the options are that the buyer gets, but it must of been a return that the buyer put down a reason that had to do with the buyer not wanting it other than item not described

I always list items as 14 day return. I have had ONE instance where the buyer got the item and said he wanted to return it. He did not file for a return, instead I worked it out through email and once I got the item back, refunded him in full. He even left positive feedback for the transaction. There are still good buyers out there...on the other hand, there are of course a lot of ****head buyers too. That's the game we play.

For item not as described, eBay's buyer protection will still let the buyer process a refund and this will ding your account.

Re: I got a return.Does this count as a defect?.

Returns initiated through a 'request' are a defect.

It won't show up as a ding until the whole return/refund process is complete, then the defect will back-date to the day of sale.

The only way to avoid a defect is to encourage them via a note in the package to arrange a return without going through EB, and to refund via "send money to family or friends" as opposed to refunding through the transaction itself.

It means you lose your fees. I'd rather lose a couple of bucks in fees than get a defect, which is probably why EB left that loophole open.
