How to easily work out profits

hello all im kinda new to ebay selling and as ive grown quite alot i would like to exaclly know how much profits ive made. I know ebay and paypal take 15% cut , so when working out my profits on paper i take that sum out.

my question is does anyone know any decent way i can easily find this out ?

I use excel and have a formula to work the profit sold per item.iij

It's not going to show profit in eBay or PayPal as they do not know your other costs

An Excel spreadsheet will do this. I suggest the following columns:

ITEM NAME.....GROSS SALE.....ITEM COST.....SHIPPING COST.....FEES.....MISCELLANEOUS COSTS.....PROFIT

The formula for the profit column would look like

PROFIT = GROSS SALE-(ITEM COST+SHIPPING COST+FEES+MISCELLANEOUS COSTS)

Relatively easy to work out...

Re: How to easily work out profits

I make it simple. Each account I sell anywhere from $800-$1500 max. Of whatever I sell, I take 20% off (overestimate) for ebay&pp fee.

My formula::

(Sold price) x 0.8 - (cost of product) - $5 (shipping) = rough profit

2nd formula::

(Price sold) x 0.25 = rough profit

This is easier for me to manage under a gazillion account each month. I can easily see my rough profits per account, which is good enough.

You can purchase spreadsheet sales tracker on eBay. works out great. Just type in spreadsheet sales. Bunch of listings pop up.

I use godaddy bookkeeping because it automatically syncs with eBay, paypal and etsy. It is $9.99 a month but worth it for me so all I do is add my cost of goods and everything is computed by the program.

Re: How to easily work out profits

I work all of this out before ever listing anything. I use a lot of BIN auctions and wont sell below a certain price. Then for live auctions, either I start it at a price I dont want to take less than OR they are items i could lose on and be OK with. Everyone has their own methods, I take some chances where others wouldnt. But i always have big ticket items on the backburner to make up for any petty amounts that I lose on.

A buddy of mine who was pretty well off used to say to me:

When I ran away from the farm and went to the big city to make my fortune, all I had was $1 and a pair of beat up old jeans. When people want to know how much money I've made I add up everything I have and subtract $1 and the cost of a pair of beat up old jeans.

:)

Seriously, though, anyone can run an Excel spreadsheet, and you can buy an old copy, or get one from a friend for a few bucks. :)

OP, if you're not in the mood for technology or sites or excel, another cheap old school tool is:
