They will try to recover their funds however they can

If you used their services then you own them their fees.

If you don't pay your fees it gets forwarded to a debt collector who will hound you by mail and phone.

If you have had your OWN bank account on a paypal account, they will have a way to find you.

Not worth the stress for this amount to be honest.

Well, eBay and PayPal cannot send you to jail and they are unlikely to sue you for £26. However, when it gets sent to a collection agency, it will most likely be reported to the credit bureau as a collection account.

You may not care about that at the moment, but it can stay on your report as long as the law allows. In the US, that would be 7 years. So, two or three years from now, you may want to get a credit card, or buy a car or a house. THEN you will care. Because it will mean that you have to pay a higher interest rate or even be rejected. Is all of that, plus having to deal with bill collectors worth the £26?

I have seen many people make this sort of mistake. One day the need money for a car, or they have an opportunity of some sort and then are rejected for a loan. Then they cry about how unfair it all is. Trust me, the person reviewing your loan application will not care that you were mad at PayPal because they shut down your account. All they will see is an unpaid collection account for a piddling amount of money and that does NOT give them confidence that you will repay THEIR loan.

You need to pick your battles in life, and this one is not worth fighting. Because you will not WIN this battle, it is only a matter of how badly you will lose.

But if he used stealth name without his bank how can he get caught... the only way is via his IP and i doubt they will go that far for such a low amount.

You are correct, they are not going to move heaven and earth to trace IP's and all that. But many times, people use SOME personal information that leads back to them when creating accounts, and collection agencies are VERY GOOD at finding that sort of thing. My point is, £26 is about $38 USD and risking your credit for that amount of money is not worth it in my opinion.

Sure, it gets sent to collections....but if you were using the name Joe Schmo with address 666 Hell Lane....chances are, the bills going to be sent to Joe Schmo at 666 Hell Lane. Not whatever your real info is. Thats not to say dont pay your fees...just saying the chance of them billing YOU and not stealth you is unlikely.

If eBay or paypal wanted to they could find the op as most uk stealth users attach there own bank issued bank accounts to withdraw to, and that makes you traceable ..

jeffweico 03-08-2015 06:52 PM

Re: ebay fees outstanding - debt agency

I know the OP paid the fees, and that is a good thing. He won't have to worry about anything.

The fact is, stealth will hide you from eBay and PayPal, but NOT from law enforcement.

Phoenix man sentenced in eBay fraud scheme

This guy opened several eBay accounts and sold as much as he could as long as he could on each account until they were closed for his not paying eBay fees. He did this on several accounts between 2003 and 2006. eBay lost over $100,000 in fees. Law enforcement got involved and traced him. All of the bank accounts were in his name. He went to prison. I understand this is VERY DIFFERENT from what the OP did, but it illustrates my point. If you want to see other stories of eBay sellers getting busted, just type the words "ebay" and "sentenced" into Google. You will see plenty of results, some for defrauding buyers, some for defrauding eBay, some for selling counterfeit merchandise, etc. Stealth is not a license to steal, or to break the law - in fact, you should be on your BEST BEHAVIOR when using stealth.
