does a refund prevent a negative feedback? I ask because a buyer was upset i didn't refund return shipping costs. I had issued him a refund of the item cost. He threatened negative feedback which i planned to dispute. He actually left a positive feedback with a negative comment.

did my refund prevent him from doing a negative feedback?

no refunds do not stop negative feedback.

but if a buyer threatens negative feedback then you can get ebay to remove it, because they are not allowed to do that.

Buyers can leave any feedback they want even after a refund has been issues or a return has been accepted.

Even though he left positive rating and a negative comment, ebay may still remove it if you ask. That is still considered feedback extortion and ebay should side with you on this. (if the comment was bad enough to bother you)

Feedback extortion, I bet that's on the increase these days especially if eBay is not agreeing to remove such feedback everytime it happens provided the seller prompts them to remove it.

The only way I believe if the purchase was cancelled before then, then they can not leave negative, refunds they can still can leave you feedback, get them to cancel if you are worried.

Just remember, if you opened an unpaid item case on your buyer first, you CANNOT cancel the transaction later on. I ran into this not too long ago....catch 22.

Did you get a defect on this transaction, I know they left a positive but did they leave a low DSR or open a case or both

Not always,
I refunded a buyer because she was slightly un-happy with product
It was a stealth account so i didn't want to bring any attention to it. I said i'll pay return postage cost however a week later she still left negative feedback:nono:
